Horrible smell, too. No wonder the kitty wants the stuff outta there.
I didn't know cats had anal glands either until this forum. I asked my vet to express Jade's after she did the scooting a few times. I watched while she did it - what a mess. No more scooting after.

I agree with comments made by AnnieBrooke and KittyCatLover23. It does sound like it might be an anal sacs issue in which case your neighbor needs to take the cat to his or her vet. Growing up, we had a dog who had to have his anal sacs expressed every now and again. I have never heard of this happening with cats, but why not. Cats have anal sacs too. I wish you well. Eve
I agree with Annie it might be the anal sacs. My dog had this issue a few years ago.
She can take the cat to the vet and have his anal sacs expressed.
