Forest Cat has Elevated SGPT (901U/L)

We brought our 12 year old cat in for a teeth cleaning because we saw her gums seemed a little swollen. The blood test came back with an elevated ALT of 901 and a low Auto Platelet of 69. Everything else is in normal rage.  She is free of any symptoms.

The Vet prescribed Denamarin 90mg tablets once a day for three weeks. Then she wants to do another blood test. The vet was also talking about Ultrasound and liver biopsy. She also didn't want to do the teeth cleaning/anesthetic.

We're of course very worried now with her talking of liver cancer and hepatitis. I was hoping you could shed some light on what the best thing to do in this case. Our Vet seems OK but it's a very commercialized operation.

I'm attaching a phot of the test results and a photo of the tooth for your review.

Thank you,

Stephen

Medhelp at one time did have a Vet on the Cancer forum but I see she is no longer avail. but I will direct you there anyway, perhaps by reading through the archives you may find some additional help...

hi I am so sorry to hear the news you face about your kitty, I can understand your dilemma and I am so glad you are doing research to try and come to an informed decision before jumping into any treatment. I would recommend more than one opinion. Perhaps an ultrasound if you are able to afford this, at least its not invasive as a biopsy would be for a starting point.
I wish I could be of more help, on this forum we are only cat owners as yourself who share info we have gained by our devotion to our cats... I'm afraid no one here would be qualified enough to give you the answers you seek....I will include a forum also here on Medhelp that is run by a holistic Veterinarian, perhaps she can give you some answers...I wish you and kitty our love and prayers and hope you'll return to tell us what route you have decided to peruse...we are always avail for a chat...
