Hair loss, scabs and brown dots on Cat

Hello! My cat Molly is seven years old, no clue what breed she is, I got her at a pet shop (I know, a bad idea). I was only eight years old so I just got her because she was pretty! She's a mostly outdoor cat during the day, but she sleeps in my room at night. She has recently developed three bald patches on her back/tail area. At first there was only one, but upon examination I noticed three, and possibly more coming. They're about the same size as the hole when you touch your thumb and forefinger. The colour of the patches is not worrying, but there are dozens of small brown dots on her skin, some are bigger than others. The patch that is on her tail and lower back has a pea sized scab on it. I have never seen her itch the spots and she has never over groomed. Anyone know the problem so I can treat it myself before having to take her to the vet?

hi and welcome. hair loss and scabs most usually are associated with food allergies...have you changed her food recently?
or environmental allergies any new furniture or carpets recently? however most often these allergies also are itchy.

I will connect you to a couple of sites....for more reading. its an alopecia (hair loss) but you need to find the underlying cause. this can be ringworm or a flea bite allergy(doesn't need to have fleas...just the bite)

start with these. but I would highly suggest a Vet visit, don't know what the brown spots are, I will do more searching for you later and see if I can find something. post back if you are interested in me doing this okay

Hi, as soon as I read the title, I was convinced that this is a flea problem. That brown stuff you're seeing is flea dirt. Cats can also develop bald spots from the itching and flea allergies.

Your kitty is probably uncomfortable and needs flea treatment. He needs the prescription brands-Advantage or Revolution. Please do not ever use the flea products that you get in drug stores. I've had vets tell me that they are highly toxic and deadly. They should be taken off the market because they've caused way too many deaths.
