Cats aren't getting along after spay

I have two female cats who have been living together for about three years now.  They've always got along very well.  Sleeping together, grooming each other, eating together, etc. Two days ago I got one of them spayed (the other was already spayed), and once i brought her home, they've been growling and hissing at each other and they both have decided to hide all day long from one another. The cat who was spayed has already started acting normal (with this exception) so I'm just wondering if this is something that happens a lot, and will it get better?

Girls are right, it happened with my two sister cats here, I had both spayed at the same day and one of  then came back weird and the other started fighting her.
I had to keep then apart for some time and so but all finished well.I had to tell you I did not believed when vet say they will get friends again :-)

Hey, I agree with Opus.  This is very common, I work in an cat only vet hospital and the smells can cause cats to get upset.  You can try wiping your cat down with a damp wash cloth or baby wipe.  If for some reason it doesn't get better I would suggest separating them and doing a slow re-introduction over a two week period.  That is only if they continue to not get along.

hi and welcome...this is actually very common, after a trip to the Vet kitties pick up the smells of the clinic and also of the other animals there, most animals don't recognize one another by sight but by their scent..so the kitty who was at the clinic smells different to your other kitty and he's not recognizing her, this wears off within a few days so don't be alarmed they wil be back to being pals again real soon....-)
