Anything to do about an alienated male cat?

My cat used to come every day and sleep long, it didn't become unfriendly but it started visiting less and less often, preferring to leave after eating. Now it almost stopped visiting altogether, if I meet it outside it wouldn't follow me or allow me to carry it if it has something to do. The problem is it has gotten thin and is getting injured in fights.

@TheDreadedRhi No, can't do much to accommodate him, just gotten very territorial and agitated.
@AnnieBrooke I'll see what I can do about that if he starts staying regularly again.

Having gotten thin suggests he is ill or wormy, it might be time for a vet visit.

Sounds like your cat is moving out, one of mine did this gradually years ago because as she got older she hated the dogs more and more.  We (good old Ma) set up a home in the shed for her and fed her outside on the shed roof where she felt safer.  When I moved out I took her with me to where she was the only pet and then moved her back home once she was hooked on having a fuss made of her again.  After that she was fine.

Is there anything you can think of that has changed in your home that could be stressing your moggy and can you make somewhere safe for him/her in the garden so he/she has shelter and somewhere close to you that is still home but on his/her terms until you find what's caused it?
