Cardiomyopathy diagnosis

My cat Lola was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy today, spent the night in oxygen, had tons of fluid drained from lungs, damage is yet to be seen as to her heart and lungs. Vet said some cats respond well to drug therapy. The next week will reveal a lot, should come home tomorrow. Anone hear of this, and if so, what is your experience. Am happy it is not cancer, as that would have been the end, but am wondering about the road ahead.

Hi, I know how scary this diagnosis is.  Try to stay positive and let the vet get your fur baby over this hurdle.  There are a few meds that your vet can prescribe to keep your kitty comfortable and happy.  Check this article out for more details about treatment specifics.

Hi, I am so happy that she's responding well to the diuretic.  The right meds might get her eating well again.  Are you trying chicken broth, baby food(strained meat only) or chicken breast?  Those are my go-to's when I've had sick kitties.

Please keep me posted on how your baby is doing.

We had the 1 weeks checkup today, and the vet said almost all the fluid is gone from her chest. We will know more in a month how her heart is responding. We are starting her on 250 mg Taurine twice a day, got some from the health food store this evening, and 1/4 of a baby asprin twice a week. One of the dangers, just like with people, is she can get a clot and become paralyzed in the hind quarters, so the asprin is to prevent that. She is eating her crunchies fine again, got some nutrical and she loves it. Going to mix the taurine in it. She is a good patient. I will let you know how it keeps going, am hoping for some reversal of the condition of her heart. She seems just like her old self again, thnk goodness.

Thanks for the welcome. We brought her home today. The vet has her on Lasix, a diuretic, and will start her on taurine later. He said she is responding real well so far on the diuretic, she has ICM version of cardiomyopathy. So we are trying to get her appetite back, it was tiring for her in the hospital. He said there can be some reversal of the disease in some cats, we will know better later once the area gets less fluid in it as the diuretic does its thing. One step at a time, trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks for the article.
