Sad news about my beloved Akira

I just thought that people on this forum would want to know that my beloved Akira passed away tonight.  It was very sudden.  I took her to the emergency vet, thinking she possibly had a bowel blockage since she was prone to constipation.  By the time I got her to the vet, Akira was in respiratory distress.  The emergency vet said she had developed congestive heart failure.  He said the prognosis was not good.  When they brought her back into the room after she had been on oxygen I could see that the doctor was right.  My poor cat was struggling to even get her breath.

I am very grateful that one of my neighbors went with me to the vet's office this evening, because I didn't have to be alone when I had to say good-bye to my sweet kitty.  I am going to miss my sweet precious cuddle-bug.

I've included a picture that was taken only a few weeks ago.

Oh, FM, I am shocked to read this.  Deeply, deeply sorry for your loss.  I've known Akira since '09'.  I have always felt a special attachment to your girl.  As you know, I loved her 'jewelry'.  I bet you have all that in a special place.

RIP beautiful, sweet Akira.

Hugs to you, FM honey.  Again, so very sorry.

I am so sorry to read about the passing of your darling kitty, Akira.
Thank you for sharing a photograph of your beautiful fur baby, Akira.
We love our fur babies with all our hearts. We look after them like they
were our children and they are important members of our family.
I also believe that like our other dear family members who pass over,
we will see our dear fur babies again when it is our time to leave this earth.  This belief gives me a lot of comfort. I have lost two of my dear fur babies to cancer. My oldest fur baby was 14 years old when I lost her to cancer and my other fur baby was almost 12 years old when she was diagnosed with cancer. I know how painful this is. Please accept my sincerest condolences in the passing of your fur baby, Akira.    Eve

It's always so hard to say goodbye to a fluffy friend.  I have a lot of cat friends on histogram and we like to say that they go to the rainbow bridge, and they'll be playing pain free and waiting for us there!
While she was once by your side, she will forever be in your heart.

Thank you so much for your support.  It seems like Akira should have lived a few more years, because she was 12 1/2 years old.  The neighbor who went with me knows quite a lot about cat breeds and thinks Akira was at least part British short hair because of her eyes and her body type--and her personality.  I know what you mean about torties surprising us with something new about the things they'll do.  It shows just how intelligent these quirky cats are, though.  Yes, apparently, with animals congestive heart failure comes on with very little warning.  And, it's so hard to know what's wrong ahead of time, because animals instinctively hide any symptoms when something is wrong.  It's easy to understand why, because if they were still out in the wild they don't want to become prey for some other animal that comes along.  As much as they love and trust us, this is just such a strong instinct that it's rare for an individual animal to come up to tell us that something is wrong.

I'm so sorry to hear about Annie's Abyssinian dying suddenly at only two years old.  You are so right about the shock of losing a cat to any kind of sudden health event.

I cried a lot more with Akira's death than when my previous cat died.  I had more time to be prepared with my previous cat, because she had been sick with chronic IBD for such a long time before she died.  I also had the privilege of having Akira a lot longer and knew her so much more than I knew my red point Siamese mix I had before Akira.  We had a much tighter bond, too.  And, of course, this sudden passing of Akira was such a shocker.  No one can be prepared for this kind of shock, whether the family member is human or is one of our fur babies.

I lost my favorite Abyssinian very suddenly to cardiomyopathy when he was only two years old.  We are never prepared for this kind of a shock.  I am so sorry.  Time is a healer, but it is not an easy thing to lose our beloved babies.

Although I am fairly new to this forum and was not as familiar with Akira as many others here, the profound feeling of lose is universal when it comes to
our precious kits.

I am so very sorry for the very unexpected death of Akira. It is good that you had someone kind enough to go with you for this painful trip. It is good to know you were not alone.

I took the liberty of viewing your wonderful look into Akiras life with you. Needless to say she had that look of knowing she was a very precious love. Akira was a Tortie?? They are the enigma's of the cat world. A pleasure to be around for their quirky look at life, always surprising you just when you think you know them.

May I ask how old Akira was?  It is good to know she did not have long to suffer, though. I am curious does congestive heart failure come on suddenly with no warning??  What a shock with no preparedness!

Praying for you and your Akira.

Oh what a terrible shock this all must be for you, dear sweet little Akira gone so suddenly without warning, I am so very sorry to read this.
These little rascals are such a huge part of our lives, we love and care for them no less than we would a child and it rips our hearts out when they pass.
RIP little Akira, you have always been our special kitty and we will all keep you in our hearts and memories
