Someone broke into my house and left my window open and now I have an almost dead kitten

Ok as I have said on a response I gave to someone, I have three kittens at my house right now. One is my childrens' ( more mine) and the other two are my moms. The reason all of them are at my house is because when we got them we noticed their eyes were matted and one had diarhea so we took them to the vet and they are on antibiotics. The vet gave us one vilal of medicine for all three kittens so it was easier if I kept them all until they were done with the medicine.

Well yesterday I came home and didn't even notice that my bedroom window was open. That is where I am keeping the kittens until my older cat gets used to them being there. He is kinda a bully to them. Anyway I go into my bedroom (still unaware the window was open since I have a huge blanket over my windows) and change out of my work clothes. I was getting laundry together when I heard a cat screaming so I run out side thinking it was my adult cat and find two huge dogs playing tug of war with my kitten. I ran with stick in hand over to the dogs and fight them off of the kitten. He doesn't have any puncture wounds and was able to scratch me and meow and even hiss at me. I think he was in shock last night and since it is between paydays and I am a single mother I can't afford to take him to the vet again. He was still alive this morning and had managed to climb up on my bed and meow at me.

As I was walking back into my house I noticed the window was open to my bedroom. Not sure who would climb in my window and nothing was taken. I speculate it was a couple of kids from down the road who know I had the kittens and like to come play with them. Needless to say my children may not have their kitten anymore because of someone breaking into my house.

Good news is all my windows are locked securely now!

I'm glad to hear things are closer to normal there, at least that your cat is fine and bonding well with your son.

The kitten is like nothing has ever happened. I can leave the front door open and he won't dare go outside. The dog that instigated the whole event is now gone so the worries are gone now.

I would still like to know who broke in my house but like I said in the post it had to be one of the neighborhood kids. Nothing was taken and nothing but the kittens toys and cat food was messed with. Looks as if they tried to feed them and were playing with them. I do have a couple of the little kids in my neighborhood that would climb threw my window just to play with the kittens.

How are the you, your family and the kitties doing after the scary adventure?

It's a good thing, to me, that your son has bonded with one of the cats.  Besides my wife, most of my best friends in life have been cats.

I understand the being a loner part, several folks of my acquaintance think I'm a bit of a recluse.  I find that I can be totally alone in the midst of a crowd, but I'm rarely lonely.

One co-worker (a trained CNA) told me she sees some personality traits in me that she sees in her son who has been diagnosed with Asperger's.

I don't agree; I am a loner (save for a very small circle of friends) but I do not have the physiological traits I see in the description of that condition.

Regardless, a bond with the kitten is good!!!  Such will only help your son learn some empathy for the world around him.

be well - Pip

I think you may have seen me in the aspergers/autism community.

I'm not surprised your son would bond really well with one of the cats.  I've always thought I bonded better with cats and dogs more than people.  I'd lay down on the ground and be at their level.  Some years ago when I lived with my parents, there was a neighbor who my sister bonded with. My sister took care of her pets while she worked.  I'd come and visit my sister ever so often so I could be with the animals. One time I went to a halloween party the neighbor threw, but it was too crowded, so I went upstairs and stayed with the pets. At the time she had a really b*tchy cat, and I'd try what I could to get along with it.  Often it hissed at me and I'd his back.

Now that I have Waldo I've bonded pretty well with him. I'd gather your son would be a lot like that. Animals and their emotions are fairly predictable. People and their emotions aren't....

Yes it was very scary to see. The kittens are supposed to be my kids kittens but of course I take care of them. I am ok with that since they are young and can only handle a little responsibility. I am making them help me clean the litter box and feed and water them. I medicate them and give them baths.

My son has asperger syndrome and he has bonded with one of the kittens. Matter of fact it is kind of funny because this kitten is a loaner as well and so their personalities are a like.

I'm glad to hear your kitten is doing better. That must be frightening to have seen those dogs and your kitten like that! One of our neighbors has two dogs, one big one and one italian greyhound, and a cat they let roam outside. I've seen how the italian greyhound treats the cat. It treats the cat like it's a toy. It nips at the cats legs and tries to pull them. The cat swats back at the italian greyhound. No wonder the cat isn't happy around the dogs, namely the italian greyhound.

We are getting rid of the two dogs that attacked the kitten. I am not going to have an animal that would veciously attack a kitten the way they did. Not only that but these dogs were rescued from the streets and we have no connection with them. I am a sucker for stray dogs on the side of the road. I usually rescue them, fatten them up, take them to the vet for a check up, and then find homes for them.

These two will defiantely be finding homes soon.

I'm glad to hear your kitten is alright.  Sometimes dogs think kittens are toys  = (  I can really empathize with how you feel.

We have four dogs and two cats and they all get along (of course the older cat is the boss).  Before we moved in here, someone tried to break in when the house was empty.  When we got home we saw our Akita sitting on the person who broke in.  She wasn't biting, just sitting and drooling on him.  The older cat was right beside her, restraining the intruder.  A neighbor gave us a little sticker saying, "Attack cat on duty"  = )

Hugs, hairballs and treats to your kitten

Good that all seems well with "Puppy."  I like that, "Puppy."

I named a cat I had 30 years ago "Tuna."  She was my little buddy.

Sad that you had the fright, but good it turned out ok.  It can be an unnecessarily scary world at times.

Be well and take care - Pip

PrettyKitty1-- It's okay at least he is back to normal. He is up and playing and acting as if nothing is wrong. We named him puppy. Kinda funny for a kitten to be named puppy.

Heather5-- Yes it was frightening and I thought I was going to lose him. I cried and prayed and held him in my arms all night. I was furious!

The kitten is doing much better today. He was up and eating and drinking water on his own. He is also playing with the other kittens. I am so excited! Maybe he was only in shock!
