Actually Marg, I lied.  My earlier comment was my second thought with a predator being my first but I figured you would of mentioned it and why I didn't.  I will bet that's it, though.  We have a new little kitty hanging around our back door making Jade extremely alert and hesitant as she goes out, even though she seems not to mind him/her. It hasn't shown up here this week and I'm finding myself a little worried about it. lol

I can't tell you how much I've learned about cats on this forum, too.  I grew up with them and have had several as an adult, but I knew NOTHING about them, really, until this forum.

The very first thing that comes to mind is, with it being so cold lately and most especially in the early morning, possibly the ground is too hard for her to dig and just easier to use the box?  Jade changes her routine every once in a while for no apparent reason too and it makes me wonder and wonder...lol

I have noticed recently like last3 weeks that Tweety who is inside /outside kitty, has started to use her cat litter box again, I know she 'goes' outside but I leave it down in case of stomach  upsets etc .why would she suddenly start to use the litter box mainly in the mornings ,even after I have opened the door so she can go out . any ideas ?

Excellent article, Opus.  It even supplies links to address certain health issues kitty may have and why he/she might not be using the box.  Thanks so much for this!
