What is his breed?

Someone told me Siamese but he looks like he has Tabby cat markings on his forehead... Any ideas?!

And yes, he does look gaunt in the pic. That's when we first found him (or I should say HE found US). But he's fattening up! He's a little porker.

zodiacqueen, I still think he's blue point. Lilac point is a lot paler and Beckett's grey is darker! But gosh they're pretty. I really like the seal point (dark brown, almost black)!!

I'm glad he is having a good time with your girls. Some cats will not show interest in the scratching post but instead destroy the furniture and doors. If he gets destructive, trim the nails or get cat repellent and put it in areas where you don't want him to be. I'd trim his nails first. My cat did not let me do this either -trim-. Heck he hates being groomed, when some cats will actually purr when your're brushing them; but that's just my cat's temper. That is why I had to declaw him; but you could try soft paws if you can't trim his claws or find yourself not skilled enough or scared to hurt him, which you can if you don't know what you're doing. I hurt my cat once trying to trim his claws as I cut the quick. He started bleeding and it got infected. I had to take him to the vet and he put the cat on antibiotics. So if he gets a bit stubborn with the scratching, get him soft paws at petco or petsmart, or pet supermarket. You have to supervise it though, as in some cats the claw tends to grow into the skin and it causes a lot of pain, requires surgery and all. I'd say that is the only bad thing aboout soft paws, but again, it doesn't have to happen to Beckett.
Hope these tips help...you know, it is always good to know stuff ahead of time lol.
Glad you finally found out your kitty's true bloodline.

I actually did some yahooing(image search) on lilac point and blue point siamese.  I swear, you really need to look at the lilacs.  Let me know what you think!!

Well since we've had Beckett his legs started turning grey, too. But NOT the paws. It's like he has little white socks on with grey leggings. When he gets home from the vet I'll post another pic if anyone cares to see it.

He got his "manhood" taken away yesterday and we're picking him up late in the afternoon.

PrettyKitty, he doesn't seem to care for the scratching post but I keep trying to teach him! I let my two girls (they're 3 yrs and 18 months) pick out toys for him at P.etco, too!!! He has a blast with them!

zodiacqueen, I asked a Siamese breeder and they said blue point! Great guess!!! I was totally confused when trying to figure it all out! LOL!

I think he looks like either a blue or lilac point siamese.  I can't believe he was a stray!

My wife says he's of the breed;

"Oh My!"

:)

Our guess is a base of American domestic short hair smoke/blue point, with 30% other mix in it (Siamese). I'm going with Ghilly on this. VERY pretty markings.

I don't think Beckett is a mix. Again, it all depends on where you live. To me, he is purebred. I'm sure others agree with this. Just look at him!
..and joy..glad you wont delcaw him. My cat is declawed, and I know this is a very sensitive topic which I will not discuss with anyone, but I just find life much easier that way, and the cat is perfectly fine. I would not declaw beckett either but instead I would get him toys to scratch and bite, a scratching post, and if he gets too destructive I would buy soft paws. :)
Just a few tips since he is your indoors baby now...

There are saimese mixes. The pattern is a trait, but doesn't have to be linked to a pure-bred.

Take a look at snowshoe cats. They have the saimese markings but they also have white on their feet. It also makes a nice google search.

PrettyKitty--- I don't think we'll declaw. I definitely don't want to show him. With his broken leg, which has to be amputated, he wouldn't qualify anyway. I've seen pics of Ragdolls! And luckily for me, my husband's uncle is a photographer for Cat Fancy and other magazines. His name is Preston Smith.

Beckett is definitely vocal! He always sounds like he's crying or in pain but it's just his talk! I LOVED learning more about his breed (I found a few sites last night) and so cool to see that he's a typical, loving Siamese. I always thought Siamese were mean!

MJ--- yes he's definitely an Applehead! And so sweet! I'm sorry your grandma had to choose between her hubby and cat!!! That's sooooo hard!

Ghilly--- from what I read the Siamese point genes are recessive so I don't see how he could be a mix and still look Siamese? He would take on the characteristics of a more dominant gene. Again, I'm still learning about all of this. What do you think?

I would say that he's a Siamese mix, because the color points don't extend down his legs like it would if he were a purebred Siamese.  The Siamese part of him is a blue point, that's what a Siamese with gray points is called, and with the tabby markings, it's called a Lynxpoint.  He is an extremely beautiful boy!

We have three Siamese mixes - Ed-A-Puss, who is an extremely dark seal point; ButterButt, a chocolate point, and Mary Pat, who is predominantly white with seal point Siamese "cow spots" on her body and a seal point head.  Mary Pat has a perfect heart marking that takes up about half of her left side.  It's the coolest marking I've ever seen on a cat!  All three of our meezers were foundlings.  Ed was only a week old when he was abandoned by his mother and we bottle fed him for eight weeks.  He now weighs 21 pounds!  ButterButt was VERY skinny and sickly when he found us, and we nursed him back to health, had him neutered and now he weighs 17 pounds.  And Mary Pat is a mini-mite who weighed four pounds when we found her.  We had her spayed and I swear, she gained weight in the car on the way home from the vet's!  She now weighs 14 pounds, but she's the same height and all that she was when she weighed a svelte 4 pounds, so you can imagine what she looks like!  She looks like a football with a face!  LOL

There are a couple types, apple-head and the show kind.  The show kind are the lanky looking cats with big ears, etc...

Applehead is a more typical, domestic looking siamese. Yours looks closer to the apple-head type.

My grandma used to have a chocolate point siamese that was built like your cat. Only it had more color. I guess if kept in cooler climates they don't go all white around their body.

It was a stray, declawed and neutered... My grandma kept him for a long time until unfortunately my step grandpa grew very ill. She had a tough choice to make. Either tend to the sick cat who was needing shots for renal failure or her dying husband.  She had to let the cat go.

Yes siamese pattern can occur with all cat colors. It's actually a form of albinoism that takes color away from the hotest parts of the body. That's why they get blue eyes as well.

Not only neutering but also declawing him. You cannot declaw or neuter your cat if you're going to show him. Thank God mine is not purebred lol.
It's good to research on one's cat's heritage. That way you learn more about his true nature and personality, and even how you can make him happier. Siamese cats are very vocal. If he isn't yet, he will be. You could go online but getting or subscribing to magazines like Cat fancy will be even more useful. Siamese cats are very cool. They look so much like rag dolls, at least to me….the only difference is that rag dolls tend to have longer hair. Have you ever seen one of those? They’re gorgeous!

That's so cool! Thank you for your knowledge!!! I don't want to show him (neutering him would defeat that purpose as well, anyway). I used to be a part of 4-H for dogs, mainly to watch my friend show her Pomeranian. Now I want to do some more research to learn about his "heritage"! Thanks again!

What happens is that most people will think of the Old Style traditional Siamese cat, which has areas where the dark colors are even darker. A Siamese like your kitty used to be considered inferior because of his tabby markings, as well as kittens born with blue(a cool grey) points; chocolate (lighter brown) points, or lilac (pale warm gray) points, genetically a diluted chocolate. So these types of kitties would not qualify for showing or breeding.

According to some reliable sources, All of these shades were eventually accepted by the breed associations, and became more common through breeding programmes specifically aimed at producing these colours.

In the United Kingdom, all pointed Siamese-style cats (including the ones which look like your kitty, with tabby markings) are considered to be part of the Siamese breed.

In the United States, the major cat registry, the Cat Fanciers' Association, considers only the four original colourations as Siamese: seal point, blue point, chocolate point, and lilac point.
So it all depends on where you live. I'd say your cat is Siamese instead of Siamese mix. If you look at how a Siamese cat should look...its appearance that is, you'll see that your cat meets all of the requirenments to be a true Siamese.  :)

By the way, once the pic is approved, if you need a close-up of his face, let me know and I'll make a new post with the new pic!
