I'm pregnant but don't like cats. Will this be a problem?

Actually, I think I had a titer run to see if *I* had ever had toxoplasmosis.  I've had cats all my life, and have done lots of gardening too.  And I've never had it.  So it must not be a slam dunk to get, or with all my exposure, I would have.  I do recall that if I had had it before, it would mean I couldn't get it again.

I just, from the original post, thought if someone didn't like cats they would not have cats, so asking if pregnancy would be a problem seemed kind of funny -- like, why would not liking cats have anything to do with pregnancy?  Blu is thinking that they are saying they *have* cats and don't like them and are asking if pregnancy makes it a worse problem.  But I didn't get that from the question, exactly.  Unless of course the person is trying to find out if their dislike will increase during pregnancy?

Preggopumps, as Apple says, the only issue about cats and pregnancy is the question of cleaning the litter box.  The worry is toxoplasmosis, which a person can also be exposed to when gardening or if they eat undercooked meat, and it can be avoided (in terms of the litter box) by cleaning the litter box daily.  First off, a cat has to have toxo in order to pass it along in their litter, and second, the poops have to sit around in the box for three days or more in order for them to be problematic in terms of passing the toxo, and finally the person cleaning the box would somehow have to get the stuff on their hands and pass it into their mouth and swallow it, to get toxo.  When I was pregnant I had a titer run on my cats to see if they had had toxoplasmosis before [it seems now that I dimly recall this is because once they have had it, they don't get it again, but I would check this with a vet].  But my husband pitched in and did the litter box duty in any case, and that was that.

Pregnant or not, cat haters are not suppose to be posting here,I guess.Its a place for cat friends...
Annie is right.And we all know one can have babies and cats  at the same time just taking some basic cares while cleaning the litter or asking someone to do it.

If you have cats, it's a problem.  Pregnant women should not come into contact with cat litter, anyway, as it could contain bacteria that is not good for mother or baby.  If you have cats, work on finding them a good home.  If not, then don't worry. :) - Blu

Hi, why would it be a problem?  There is nothing about pregnancy that requires contact with cats.
