Unfortunately, some cats do like to kill birds.  There is some interesting research out there that shows that birds, being harder for cats to catch than mice, are a poor investment of hunting energy, so mostly only well-fed house cats can afford the habit of trying to catch them.  (Apparently feral cats don't hunt birds nearly as much as housepets.)

You might try training Bubbles to wear a collar with a bell.  Possibly that will help by warning (at least some of the) birds.  Put him into a soft collar first, so he can get used to the whole collar idea, and then change it for a collar with a bell.

A cat is a cat. A cat is a wonderful hunter. There is no way to stop him. Get used to it, or trade him for a turtle. But before you do that, remember that your house is mouse and rat free. Want to stop that habit?
