losed weight, diarhea, vomiting

My cat is about 17 and for about the last year he has lost a ton of weight, vomits up his food now and then and every time he eats (wet food only cause his teeth are bad) he has constant diarhea that smells horrible.  At his age, I didnt want to put him through getting his teeth pulled and extensive testing.  He constantly cries to be fed and I feed him several times a day but he still is very very thin.  Its hard to take him in to put him down because he isn't acting as if he is in pain or discomfort and is still very affectionate and lovable and sleeps with me.  How do I know when to make that decision?  Or what I can do to help him in his last years?  I know if I take him to the vet it will cost me a fortune which I dont have.

Just as with humans, kitties age differently, manifest illnesses differently...

Just as with humans, kitties act differently, enter our hearts differently...

From what I read, it seems as if your kitty has entered the "Final" Phase" of his life.  Food not kept in long enough (at either end of the alimentary canal) to nourish, is food that does him no good.

He is winding down...watch close.

Take care - Pip

Hi Babes, Im not an expert but do have 3 cats and one of them Felix who is 16 goin on to 17. Felix has lost weight but cats when ther older tend to loose weight. Felix vomits from time to time and i give him a thick cream which he licks off the front of his paw, it is specially for fur balls and it works a treat, you can buy any type of medicine for fur balls at the pet shop or at the vet. I also worm him every 3mths which helps him too, and also change his food if he's still being sick after uv'e fur balled him.
What i call an upset stomach is when he's diarheaing that when i change his food, i find whiskers is too rich for from time to time and i keep him off milk too, he also hasn't got as much teeth as he use to have, but thats age babes, Felix does suffer with Gingervitus but he's really happy, he's alway purring and has mad moments wher he runs about and if he's out side he goes jumping up the trunk of the tree and hangs off it with his claws stuck in the bark. lol
Babes you'd know if he was in pain, we've both had our cats for along time and if your anything like me, you will hav bonded with him so you'd know:0)
Opus is right you should pop him down to the vets for a check, get him to worm him aswell.
I do hope everything works out for you Babeblue94, it isn't nice when they'r poorly, dont giv up on him sweetheart and dont let him know your upset bcoz he'll pick up on it straight away.. Plz Plz Plz let me know how you get on with him. Whats his name babes?

well babe I don't know what to tell you other than please be very sure kitty isn't in pain...its just not fair if he is and you can't afford expensive Vet bills(read the first headline on the top of this forum for help with Vet bills)

What is the trouble with his teeth? does he have rotten teeth or plaque build up?
If this has gotten extensive than there is a good chance that he could be in congestive heart failure CHF, this so often is the case when kitties get gingivitis.

he could also be in renal failure(CRF) with the constant hunger? the diarrhea could be because of the recent change in diet.
I'm just guessing here, I'm not a Vet and only a Vet can give you a diagnosis.

IMO, I would spend a few dollars and at least find out their opinion, if he isn't in pain than you needn't make a hasty decision....but if she is than I think you know what you need to do.
This could be a treatable problem and kitty could have a few very good years yet with you. Teeth cleaning isn't all that expensive and most clinics will help with a payment plan...
Please just do this poor little guy a favor and find out just what is wrong and to be sure he isn't suffering.

keep us posted please and good luck to you both

♥Opus
