What happened to Heidi?

I didn't want to post about Heidi's disappearance because I really thought she'd be back home safe and sound.  She's a very independent kitty and isn't real social, not mean but rather skittish.  She has a mind all of her own.  One time when Mommycat disappeared for a few days several months ago, Heidi came to me crying up a storm.

Mommycat reappeared none the worse for wear after we had walked and walked and called and called, Heidi beside me all the way.  After all this was her mother we were looking for. We never knew where Mommy had gone. We live out in the country and the cats and dogs do have lots of room to run and play.  They love it and we do too.

Sounds idealistic, right?  Well it is, except for a possible predator or two passing through.  We are in a severe drought, very hot, temps over 100 consistently for June. Haven't seen any coyotes but that's not to say there aren't any.  Our dogs are pretty good guard dogs and have always kept those intruders away.  Then there are snakes, copperheads and rattlesnakes. Our donkey's neck is swollen and he may have gotten bit.  Haven't seen any snakes here where we live.  We have other property down the road and there are rattlesnakes there.  Too close for comfort. Yikes!

Anyway back to Heidi missing.  We had to make an overnight trip to Houston, 92 yr old aunt very ill.  We weren't gone more than 30 hrs.  Heidi was alive and well when we left.  The next night when we got back it was almost dark and I didn't notice Heidi was missing.  The next morning I went out to count the kitties, TJ, present...Tommy, Aramis, present. Mommycat ,present and crying loudly.  Oh no, Heidi not present.  We searched and searched, this time, Mommycat at my side.  At first I thought she was just "heid-ing" somewhere.  That night and everyday this week we have looked and looked.  Called the neighbor 1/2 mi. down the road...no, haven't seen her.  She just vanished without a trace.  I am just sick about it.  We don't have any kind of traffic on our gravel road, and if she'd been hit or snakebit, or injured someway, she would still be in the vicinity.  We would have found her!  She's only 2. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?  Thanks, everybody for listening.

I meant Mommycat earlier, it just didn't sound like it the way it came out.  My continuing hope and prayers for Heidi.  So sorry for the stress or this, Linda.  The good news is, several of your cats have pulled this little prank before and come home just fine so I'll continue to be hopeful and pray this will be the case.

Big Hugs!♥

Jade, last time it was Heidi's mommy that was gone for a couple of days.  Heidi's been gone for a week now.  My Vet's wife didn't make me feel better yesterday telling me about the owls and spanish eagles swooping down and carrying off small animals right out of the yard. The drought is making it hard for them to find food.  I don't know which would be worse....not knowing what happened to Heidi or.....knowing what happened to Heidi.  I'm sure not knowing has to be better...I can imagine that she is happy and safe...somewhere.

Thank you all so much. I know everybody on here really cares.  We have 2 neighbors within a mile and I have checked with them.  We don't have a shelter.  The closest town that does is Temple, which is 35-40 mi. away.  I know Heidi would not ever go with anyone.  Except for me, she is afraid of people.  I won't stop looking for her.  I worry about this horrible heat. Even though she has shed a mountain of fur, she still has a lot, as do TJ and Mommycat.  I don't see how she could have had heat stroke because she would not have disappeared.  None of it makes any sense. One time while we were living in Alaska our beloved Big Tom disappeared for almost a month.  I drove around every evening calling for him, hoping and praying I would find him. One morning he just showed back up at our front doorstep.   Margy, I will try to get some notices up and leave some at our 2 Vets offices.  You never know.... Thanks again, everyone for your prayers.  I really appreciate it.

Get some notices out around the neighborhood, if anyone has seen her they will contact also call the  shelter in case she was injured and taken in for treatment..I am sure you have thought of that .. hope she turns up I live in dread as Tweety wanders around . but I know she is living as she wants to and is happy,  so we have to take that chance . Fingers crossed she turns up ...
