good to know. I live in the same area as you, so I'll keep an eye out for that!
There are zillions of things that are dangerous to cats, and it can make you go nuts. Rhodie's are very toxic, but we live in the Puget Sound just south of Seattle and those are the state flowers. There are 5 huge ones on the back yard. Last summer I did not know they were toxic, and they got the flowers, the pollen stuck on their feet. They are fine but now that I know that they are toxic I will be more cautious this spring. I had a cat enclosure built and they can go outside any time day or night through the master bathroom window; which is just the right size for a large cat. It is 6' wide by 16 feet long and 6 feet tall. They still like to go out and run around and eat grass, so when my brother comes up in May I'm going to enlarge it so they have more room to run and it will have a tree in there that they like to run up. In the summer at night I put out a light that attracts moths and other bugs this gives them something to hunt and keeps them active, healthy and happy. They get the outdoor fun with the indoor safety; best of both worlds (o:
ZQ ---- 16 years! that is great! I would rather be overprotective than negligent any day.
PK1----- yeah digestive enzymes pretty miraculous... maybe I should take some maybe they would help my chronically chapped lips... Lol!
Helpin------hmmm.... tiger lily , hydrogen peroxide, sedatives and charcoal... I'd throw up too! Ick! Glad to hear it worked out in the end. btw I grew up in Utah in Logan. Have you always been in ut?
So glad she's doing okay. I had a kitten eat a large piece of a tiger lily one time and afterwards I looked it up online and it said that it could shut down their kidneys. I called my vet and they told me to give her a teaspoon of hydorgen peroxide. He said it would make her throw it up - NOPE! So, I called back and they said give her another teaspoon - and still no throwing up! UGH! So, he then said to bring her in. He was giving her some sedation that always makes cats throw up - NOPE! She still didn't throw up. So, they had to give her some charcoal or something like that into her stomach to soak up the poison. He then allowed her to come home a couple hours later and told me to leave her in my bathroom since she still hadn't thrown up! LOL!!!! Sure enough, we left her in our bathroom and a few hours later she threw up all that black charcoal - UGH!!!
She ended up being okay, but it scared me so much. Hubby gave me roses with lillies in them for Valentines and I felt so bad because I took all the lillies and threw them away. He was sorry because he had forgotten about that.
Anyway, I'm glad she's okay!
Mari,
So, her skin condition has improved!! Well that is something!! I'm glad you are making progress with her. Keep us updated on that, ok? I wish everything with cats was only as simple as adding digestive enzymes to their food :)
I am soooo glad, girly!! I was sure that your baby would be fine!! I'll tell ya what, us paranoid pet owners have the cats that live the longest!!!! My "child" is going on 16 yrs old, and she's pretty healthy and very very playful. Paranoia CAN be a good thing!
Take care, hon!!
=D
ZQ Thank you. She seems to be absolutely fine and 10 hrs later I think we're probably safe. Kitties! such a worry sometimes!
Hi, I just went and looked this up, since I also heard that raisins are poisonous to cats. I just had 2 sites tell me the same thing-it's poisonous in large quantities in DOGS, and in cats the "research" isn't in yet. They are not sure, so they suggest to be cautious.
IMHO, if your baby only ate or licked one, I bet she'll be just fine. Don't worry about it!! =D
PK1 Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I called our local 24 hour vet and they were pretty vague about the real risks. Part of me told me to just ride it out... the other part was playing the overprotective neurotic mama. Sometimes you just need someone to let you know that you're doing the right things. And so far, she is just fine. I know I shouldn't let her have any human food. but usually she doesn't want it anyway and when she does she is sooooo cute and sooo persuasive
As far as the dry skin goes..She will not eat food with salmon oil on it! I thought she'd love it, but alas raisin bagels are FAR more tempting :) She will eat the food with enzymes (most of the time) and it seems to be helping. Still a few flakes but not nearly as many.
Yes, just keep an eye on her. If you notice anything wrong, you know what to do :) and that's why Sativa is so lucky.
How's her other issue coming up? Did you get her digestive enzymes? How's is she doing?
