viral gastroenteritis

We rescued a little kitten approx 6 weeks old who has been diagnosed with viral gastroenteritis. The prognosis by the vet is poor and I'm wondering if there is anything else we can do other than keep her hydrated and treat/prevent secondary infections.

Please help- really appreciate any advice or past experience that you may have...

Thanks in advance...

Shobha

Thank you for the advice...Unfortunately, she died the next day after I posted this so there  was very little that we could do for her...Thank you all the same.

hi and welcome I am sorry to read about your kittens health problems, I do hope he can pull through this ok. I am glad you are seeking out additional info to help his along.
I will send you a link to a wonderful herbal supplement for humans that is perfectly safe for cats too....slippery elm bark(this one without any additives such as corn, soy etc)
It SOOTHES the gastroentestinal tract....very useful for cramping, diarrhea or constipation.
I give it to one of my cats regularly when he appears to have an upset tummy or bowel.

use a small jar. for each 1/2 teas SEB (slippery elm bark) mix with 2 tablespoons boiled water...(.I usually mix a jar with abt 2 teas of SEB with 8 Tablespoons boiled water)
stir than let sit for 30 min. than shake. its should be quite a thick mixture. you can use a dropper and give kitty about 1/2 teas (2.5mls) 2-3x per day.
MUST be at least 30 minutes before or after eating!!

the following is a link to where I order this from, but any good health food store will also carry it...NOW brand is the best b/c it has no additives therefore safe for kitties.
