I have a Siamese snowshoe. She is almost 4 months old. The last couple days when I sit down she will jump on my lap and give herself a bath. After she is done she will start to lick wherever her lil paws can grab and will wrap her arms and barely put her claws in me, she will then start licking away. When I try to pull away she puts her claws in a little more and hold's on tighter. It only last for about a min then she let's me go. So question's? A: why does she do it and B: should I let her do it or stop her? I just don't want to upset her. She is purring the whole time she is doing it too :-/ please help

Hi Mary,

I think your kitty LOVES you. MY kit does the same thing and I have never stopped her. I believe it is just an extension of her preening nature as a cat. She thinks of you as her mamma cat and is just showing you she also can nurture you. When we pet our cats they think of this as licking or preening.

The only thing you need to be careful of is that when she grabs with her claws she does not begin to nip you. Then she will associate petting and biting and that is not a good thing.

As BB said , if you need some reassurance just call your vet and ask them if they think this is a problem. Also just to mention this is a good time to begin clipping her claws so she will get used to it. If she is an indoor cat only she will need them cut every few weeks. Ask your vet to show you how-or perhaps you already know and have a cat nail clipper.

Lucky you to have a kitten they are just so much fun!!!

Good luck ,
CML

Hi some cats have behaviourl problems so they can be addicted to things my friend has a cat who is addicted to water and she went to the and she had a problem but I think u should go to the vet and see what they say but if you r letting him lick you then don't because there will be a mental connection between this cat an you so you need to break that connection or he could have problems in his/ her later life

Or it could just be a case of he/ she really likes you
When my cat was in season she did the same
Plz can you take your cat to the vet plz
But u need to try and break the connection she will still love u but what is more important making her a little upset or getting her sorted out and making sure she is ok and fine for when she is older
