cat brain damage and other injuries update (bear)

bear my cat is 8 months old on the 2nd of march 2011 he got hit by a car after a week of being at the vets having to go threw a leg amputation, his jaw being re alinned and 5 days of having drugs to reduce the swelling to his brain, he came home, when he came home his attention span and fear levels where minimal, his eyesight wasnt great and his left eye had been damaged, he also would use his bed as a toilet,,,thursday he had a check up his jaw is still not aligned right but the vet is happy to leave it to heal as long as he can eat and its not causing him pain,,his eye is healing better then she was expecting and the only thing she was conccerned about was he had a slight temp but he is on antibiotics so she not to worried cause it can be normal for cats after surgery?? he has been home nearly 5 days now and has adapted  to having 3 legs well,,, his attention span has increased,,he now is using his litter tray and not his bed :-) he can track moving things alot better aswell,he also is eating small meals 6 times a day from a bowl put on the floor (he was having a flat plate held at an angle ) and cant get enough he is currently on a soft food called recover vets said hell be on that for a month, he is very alert and loves being affectionate i know some people say hes just a cat and ive heard that alot especially when people have found out how much the vet bill is but to us he is a part of the family, he is currently on cage rest at the moment so we dont know if any more little differences will appear when he is finally allowed to roam the house but we love him all the same and as long as he is happy that is all that matter,, i did try looking up about cats and brain damage due to r,t,a's but found very little info,,so im unsure what im looking for really,,but he is doing amazingly well :-)

Well no one HERE is gonna say "he's just a cat," I promise.  We all feel the same way you do.  Do people really say that to you?  I'm so happy to read of Bear's continuing improvement.  You know, it hasn't been long at all so I'm sure there will be many more small improvements each day since Bear has come such a long way in a short amount of time.

You're looking online for more encouragement.  There's been many head injury cases on this forum, but too bad, people don't come back and post as to the degree the cat got better.  Hopefully that happens because kitty got so much better there was no more need to post.

Keep us updated and great job with the rehab!
