xmas decorations

Has anyone figured out a way to get cats to leave the xmas tree alone? My cats climb it, pull the lights off, flick off the balls and attack the tinsel. I think this year I might just throw the decorations onto the tree to save the cats a job.

If anyone wants a giggle and has a dog, tie string to one of the shiney balls and make a loop at one end. Now hook it over the dogs tail and watch the dogs surprise as the cats suddenly want to chase him everywhere.

LOL, Heather that is soooooo funny, and it shows how different all our kitties are.  Aramis is my super fat "lay-around cat." He doesn't do much of anything until you baby-talk to him.  I guess its stimulating to him because he goes "rogue" on me. His "inner-kitten" comes out and the more I baby-talk to him, the crazier he gets.  Its almost like he's high on something.  I guess it's "my love"<3

I know exactly what you mean.  My husband's the one who started with the laser light to distract them from the tree.  They love to go after that light.  Well, a few days I noticed the kittens were going nuts and running all over the place and I looked up at the ceiling and there was this small circle of light.  It was moving around and I thought the kittens were seriously going to climb the walls to try to get it. It was so funny to watch them zoom across the room and back again. Then I realized what it was. The emblem on the top of my laptop was reflecting light shining through the window onto the ceiling. Silly kitties, but such fun to watch!

oh yes, the dreaded laser lights :)  My son has the cats going nuts with those things, even normal torches. As he shines it on the ceiling, they all sit together looking up then suddenly its shone onto the carpet and WHOOSH, there's just a blurrrrr of cats.

Oh my gosh! I need to get one of those things, lol. I can just see Sakura with that thing. Of course, she'd probably want to play with it! There's not a whole lot that scares her, lol.

I want a remote-controlled tarantula!!!  I also have a super large village, and then a separate Disney character village. When one of the kittens gets on the large table, it looks like "Attack of the 50 FT Cat."  We have one of those little laser light gadgets and we started using that to distract Heidi and Shadow (my husb calls her "Stubbs") because of her short stubby tail. They do understand "no" but I hardly ever have to utter it.  I think I have two exceptionally smart kitties.

LOL!  Love the remote control tarantula solution.  That's funny!

Xmas sounds lots of fun at your house.  Kids, cats and remote control devices!

Im not sure about squirting water near xmas tree lights, both I and the cats will probably end up lighting the room lol.
I do believe Ive solved it tho. My son has a very large remote control tarantula. A few flicks of its legs while under the tree has caused all the cats to give it a very wide berth now. They occassionaly stare at its legs poking out from the presents, but a quick reminder from the remote control sends them dashing into the kitchen.

I remember two years ago when my son wanted a scalextric set for xmas. When we set it up the cats were leaping about everywhere trying to catch the cars. In the end we were using elastic bands to fix toy mice onto the cars. Wow this was great exercise for the cats. The poor dog went into the garden for some peace.

Ed, I grew up with 3 cats and each one climbed the tree Once and had it fall on them.  I can see we were lucky as it only took one time for each of them to learn lol...

The ONLY way to keep the cats off the Christmas tree is to lock your kittys in another room. Remember, cats were born to climb trees, fake or real, they don't care!!!!  LOL
