So, in anticipation of having surgery, and also, just because I feel awful and lie around a lot, we got a Netflix subscription. If you are allowed to have a laptop or a smartphone with Internet connection in your room, you can watch TONS of streaming video movies, TV shows, etc on the laptop or phone...with some comfy noise-blocking headphones, it might be a great idea to even help you sleep with all the beeping sounds, etc that annoy in the night(or day). I can easily fall asleep to old favorites like Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, and Serendipity; all available via streaming video. ;-)
I've been taking advantage of our subscription daily. Hubby still games at night and his computer is in our bedroom(something we hope to rectify next Spring by converting our garage). I got him a really nice set of BOSE noise canceling headphones for Christmas a few years ago. I've commandeered them, and lie in bed, watching a movie most nights, instead of having to stay up in the recliner in our living room. Leaning the back of my head and neck against even the recliner back is very painful now. I have to lie in bed on my side usually.
So, i just wanted to share my find with you all. Their minimum $9/month plan, where you get one DVD in the mail, is all that's required to access streaming video too. If you have a wii, you can connect it up to your main TV and watch movies there too. We're talking about getting a Wii fit for Christmas now that we like Netflix so much, and also have 3 kids who'd LOVE to play on a newer system. They use my hubby's old Nintendo 64.
