Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.'
rod44 did a great job explaining Syringomyelia.....knowing the root cause is like rod said important....and the place to start as researching Drs to find one well experienced and informed on this and related conditions.
We have a very short list of Drs for Australia....I will bump that list up for u, keep in mind the list is not a referral nor an endorsement for those listed, but is meant to be used as a research tool....a starting place....
If u have more questions feel free to ask...and know u r not alone <3
I am not a doctor but have been living with Syringomyelia for years.
You have a Syrinx (Syringomyelia) witch is a cyst or cavity in the center of your spinal cord going from your C6/7 or cervical vertebra 6/7, these are the last vertebra in your neck, about shoulder level, T1 vertebra is the first vertebra in the next section of your spine witch is the thoracic vertebra, The thorax vertebra are attached to your rib cage and extend down to your lower back or Lumbar Spine
"subtle prominence of the central canal of spinal cord" could mean there may be another syrinx developing. You need to talk to a NS or NL as there is no mention why this has happened. Sometimes a blockage of the CSF the fluid that flows around the spinal cord can cause this to happen, finding the cause should be the objective before any invasive procedures are done. You need a Doctor who has good experience of Syringomyelia.
