Chiari 1.5

Went to a NS (the in state "Chiari Specialist" that does not check for co-morbidity issues) who said he would classify me as Chiari 1.5. No discussion of basilar invagination, reflexes odontoid, or brainstem decompression (1st NS said he couldn't see v any issues with brainstem--also not a specialist).

My question is: has anyone with Chiari 1.5 had a successful surgery? Has c anyone worked with a good NS for complex Chiari cases?

Could I ask how this "Chiari Specialist" got to this level of best in state?

Best in state ,means absolutely nothing when your the ONLY specialist.

IMHO, if the associated disorders & diseases aren't looked into also further testing.
This person shouldn't get to be 'notes' as a specialist.

Not sure who you went to but Chiari 1.5 =

"Chiari 1.5 malformation, or bulbar variant of Chiari I malformation, is a term used in the literature to describe the combination of cerebellar tonsillar herniation seen in a case of Chiari I malformation along with caudal herniation of some portion of brainstem (often obex of the medulla oblongata) through the foramen magnum. It is considered progression of Chiari I malformation."

Surgery for this type seems to be the best course of action.....not sure why they are not looking at related conditions.....
