Chiari Malformation Surgery incision opened.

Well I went to doctor they gave me antibiotic cream. THe incision was closing, but now it's opening. I have CSF fluid just leaking from  the area. with an open wound how fast or how easily could an infection happen?. Also could the body reject stitches

And your surgeon is aware of this?

Call and demand to be seen....if you have that much that it is soaking your pillow then something is not right.

it's almost the entire incision maybe 2.5 inches. there's enough fluid that my pillow was soaked and I can feel it running down the back of my neck

Hi, yes it is possible  for your body to be rejecting the stitches.....sometimes the internal stitches are rejected...and will open the incision....

How much fluid is leaking? I had what I called oozing up until at least 9 months post op....it was a few drips ever now and then,

Washing your hair too often can also cause the skin to dry out and pull on the incision so do not wash your hair frequently and use a baby shampoo or a very mild one..

I also wore a hat 1- to help prevent getting a sunburn on the skin around the incision and 2- to keep dirt off the area.

How large an area would you say is opened?
