Hidradenitis

Just out of curiosity, does anyone here suffer from hidradenitis? I have heard that some people with Chiari also suffer from certain skin disorders and just wondering if anyone else has this?

I am sorry to bump up such an old thread, but I suffer from Hidradenitis Suppurativa ... And the funny thing is how I got here. I was reading a post somewhere and someone said something about their butt dimple :) Because I was told, when I first started getting the abscesses, that I had a butt dimple. "Just the way you were formed I guess" is what that dr. said. Then butt dimple lead sacral dimple which lead to abscesses (just a thought forming in my mind) which turned into my typing "hidradenitis suppurativa chiari". Who would have though that this could possibly be related? But I had thought about it because my dermatologist said that my HS was linked to my hormones and my immune system being out of whack ...

WOW ... The things a person can learn ...

It is truly amazing what we find out can be connected to Chiari...ppl may call me crazy but I am sure that having an inflammatory condition comes hand in hand with Chiari. So many of us have Hashimotos that have Chiari...so I completely understand why you try to connect the dots...I have been doing the same thing!!

Lu- That sounds terrible and painful...I have eczema (surprise, surprise...another inflammatory condition!) quite bad at times where it actually makes it too painful to even use my right hand. I have huge cracks in them and I have to wrap my hands in plastic wrap just to do housework!! I would definitely check with your PCP...places of skin contact are also places where you get eczema so it could be that as well. Have you ever tried a prescription steroid cream?

Omg omg omg. I recently like 3 months ago developed a hoorible rash under both arms and under my breasts. I thought it was from the heat of summer and being over weight. But I am a very clean person and it would not clear up. So I switched deoderants from the brand I have been using since I was in highschool thinking I had developed allergies and no change. I tried treatments for yeast infections thinking it was from topical yeast.  And no changes. It is still horrible and painful at times. All I can do is keep it clean and dry and pry it doesn't crack open and bleed again.  I am going to ask my pcp about this but I doubt he will know.

I swear every day I fall apart more. And someone on here always seems to have the dame broken parts and I suddenly feel normal if only in an abnormal society.  : ).

Thank u for this

Unfortunaltly this is another condition I have, although I never really assumed they were realted, more of a curiosity. Its a terrible condition, and there is no cure and most treatments are ineffective! ugh just another thing to add to the list.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (also known as "Verneuil's disease", "Pyoderma fistulans significa," and "Acne inversa" is a skin disease that most commonly affects areas bearing apocrine sweat glands or sebaceous glands, such as the underarms, breasts, inner thighs, groin and buttocks.

Here is a description of this condition...

......and I do agree with Carolyn that this may be distantly  related.....the auto immune issue is something we all deal with....I also wonder if it has ne connection to Ehlers-Danlos as u can develop cysts with that as well.

I'm not sure if this would be a Chiari related thing exactly but it does seem to be related to inflammatory Auto-immune conditions, and those seem to run with Chiari for some reason. Have you ever been tested for Lupus or RA? I would ask to if you have been dx with this.

I can't say that I have hidradenitis but I have definitely had some weird things happen to my skin, boil like lesions that show up all of a sudden and are painful. However, I have also found that this happens sometime with Hashimotos (another thing you may want to get checked out).
