I had Chiari surgery 2/14/19. Why dull headaches again now??

I also had syringiomyelia. It's been nearly a year and I had relief from most symptoms. I'm still noise and light sensitive (fluorescent lights only). Lately I get a dull headache behind my right ear or in the area of my incision on the back of my head. Anyone have any ideas as to why? I don't even like putting my head on a pillow as it makes it ache even worse.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Do you notice a pattern to your new heaadaches? Surgery can lessen symptoms, but it may not get rid of them.....and it is possible to have them return and there could be several reasons why they would reoccur.
Scar tissue could form at the incision site and cause a CSF obstruction.
Try to see if there is a pattern, some of us do get headaches still after surgery and sometimes it can be weather related, or due to stress,.
So do try to see if there is a pattern, keep a journal of sorts this may be helpful to see what might be the reason,

Also when did these start?

I’m 1 year out from surgery 2. I can tell you that 6 months after the first surgery I knew something wasn’t right but it took almost 4 years to have someone figure it out. It was excessive scar tissue blocking CSF flow and my brain tissue adhered and woven through the mesh plate. I didn’t have a syrinx so I can’t comment on that aspect but I’d say pay attention to your new headaches as Selma said and perhaps contact your NS
