Chiari has taken over my life.

Hello everyone. I’m 54 years old and I weigh 148 lbs. I was diagnosed with Chiari in 1995. I’m having trouble breathing, swallowing and talking. I slur my speech and catch myself sighing between sentences just so I can breathe. I’m very forgetful and even though I’m not overweight, I get tire easily. I use to be very active but this past year has been the worst. Neurologist say that I’m not a candidate for surgery so what do I do, where do I go, who can I turn to. Please help!

HI and welcome to the Chiari forum.

First, it is very possible that your symptoms are also due to a related condition NOT just Chiari.....and understand surgery is not a cure, but a means to slow progression. And surgery is done when there is an obstruction to CSF flow, if you don't have an obstruction there is no need to have this surgery. That said, did you have a CINE MRI? Were you checked for related conditions?
Have you been to a true Chiari specialist?
