Medical Marijuana Update

You know I asked if anyone uses MMJ for pain - Well I got my MMJ license and here are my thoughts.

There is a difference in the edibles and smoking.  My doctor said that the edible would help with inflammation and basic muscle pain. I was kind of skeptical at first but thought I would hear him out and give it a try. Remember I also have severe scoliosis, and curving in my lower spine that has just started about a year ago. Anyway, I hurt all over constantly. So after trying just the edibles I have to say I do feel pain relief and my muscles are not so "tight". This weekend I actually went up and down the stairs to do laundry, and it is cold outside which always makes it hard for me to move. My head pain is not gone entirely, but it is much more manageable and not as severe. The edibles are like taking a pain pill, but without all the weirdness of being on a narcotic pain medication and without the dependency.

I have only smoked at night before bed, between the edible and smoking I have been sleeping all night and not waking up because of pain or waking up with pain. I have to say I am actually kind of surprised.
Since I do not take pain pills, I was pretty much left without any means of relief from my pain. As anyone living which chronic pain with no relief knows, it can be very difficult to maintin any sort of quality of living. Just the simple day to day acts of living can be bothersome, and there is an emotional impact as well.  If you get out of bed, you will hurt. If you stay in bed, you will not only hurt but you feel like you are getting nothing done, or enjoying life, and that is depressing.
I am not trying to be an advocate for MMJ, I am just trying to help anyone else who might benefit from the use of MMJ.

I am drug resistant. Yet for years doctors shove opiates at me anyway. I have bucket loads of oxy, etc as I don't take it.

Recent research I've done says this may help. It's been recommended to me by two Doctors now. So I spoke with a dispensary about my conditions and ask for input as to what they would or wouldn't recommend. They referred me to a woman on staff [sorry because I don't have my card yet she spoke only if I don't repeat her name or the dispensary so pls don't ask] who has undergone extensive training on MMJ.

Upon reviewing everything she did make some recommendations. She stated that it may or may not help due to my systems resistance to drugs. But she feels it would at least help with the chronic pain. Probably 60% of the chronic pain I deal with sounds to be similar to yours in the low back. Because of the sub-cranial ha she said smoking would definitely be out as a treatment. And made some other recommendations. Her recommendations against smoking it was for exactly the effect sounds like selmaS was referring

Yes, Selma  I understand what you are saying. Google news health actually has a article posted right now.

So it sounds like its not that strong of a study. But like most chemicals if used early in life it can cause long term issues. The main point is that Marijuana has no lethal overdose. People die every day from various drug over doses, and none of which are marijuana related.  If a person "overdosed" on marijuana, worse case scenario they would go to sleep. On man made pain killers, you would die. If you dont die, you still damage your body.

Yes, smoking it has long term effects but the THC its self doesn't have any adverse long term effects. In fact our brain has a receptor specially to receive the chemicals that it contains.   I was trying to find the right name for the receptor but if found this story instead

Hi...I am glad to hear this is working for u, but have a question concerning the smoking aspect as  smoking cigarettes is not good bcuz the actual  smoking  causes  our nerves and vessels to constrict which  is not good if they r already being compressed....do u know long term affects?

Thanks for the update

Thank you! Yes, that is what my doctor said too. I can't take Ibuprofen because it makes me sick. I just also wanted to get the word out that having your MMJ license does not always mean you have to smoke. The edibles are great for pain relief.

Glad to hear you got your card! I read a study a while back and it showed the MMJ had the same anti inflammatory effects as Ibuprofen, with out the side effects...Glad to hear you are having relief!   And it is nice to hear about your experience.   Stacey
