Need help understanding MRI results please

Hi. I have been having nausea and eye pressure pains ever since a physical therapist put pressure on my scalp after a neurologist sent me to him for therapy for neck pain radiating to my scalp. Anyway, I just had an MRI of the Brain done w/ and w/o contrast, and I'd love some help understanding it.  It says: "Slight right inferior cerebellar tonsillar displacement measuring approximately 1-2mm suggestive of borderline tonsillar ectopia without evidence of hydrocephalus or syringohydromyelia."  Is this anything to be concerned about?  The test was ordered by my opthalmologist.  I don't know if it's worth noting, but a recent MRI of the cervical spine showed slight disc herniations. Thank you so much for your knowledge and guidance.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

It would seem your optho feels you have pressure on the optic nerve with the symptoms you have...since the MRI suggests that ICP is not an issue since it said no evidence of hydrocephalus.....HOWEVER, that does not mean there is not an obstruction.... A CINE MRI is the best way to determine if there is an issue with CSF flow.

Most  Drs look to the length of cerebral tonsil displacement to determine or classify Chiari....but Chiari is the malformation of the skull which causes the displacement.
Do get copies of ALL testing along with reports if you haven't already.

Disc herniations tend to be common among those of us with Chiari and even more so if we have both Chiari and EDS.

Your report also states no sign of Syringohydromyelia , however if there is an obstruction to flow lower it wouldn't show on this view...SYRIGOMYELIA is something to rule out when there is an obstruction.

The best suggestion os to get the copies of the MRI on disk and forward copies to a true Chiari specialist for review and suggestions on how to proceed.
