No mans land

I havent posted in awhile but just to give you updates. I found out of my Chiari after a brain fog and and MRI confirmed it... went to a Chiari specialist (Frim) and 2 NS, who said I have it, but shouldn't be causing me too many problems anything... Really, at this point, I have not had much symptoms besides maybe a memory fog, and occasional weakness in hands and arms...it comes and goes, and when it goes - i feel like im cured, and when it comes back, its always a grim reminder... current suggestions are not for surgery but the brain fog sometimes affect my ability to think at work.  Plus, theres always concern that it can get worse...

Any Chiarians out there who have been diagnosed but have not had surgery? What are the best ways to alleviate the symptoms of brain fog or weakness ( also, does weakness occurs in one arm/hand or both at the same time?

I haven't had surgery.  I have a fair number of symptoms, but lately they have been pretty well controlled with medication and changes to lifestyle.

I don't have weakness, so I can't speak to that.  Regarding brain fog, all the normal things that make you think clearer are helpful...you don't want to be 'foggy' for normal reasons + chiari reasons.  Make sure your vitamin levels are good, like selma said.  Keep well hydrated, eat a good diet, get a good amount of sleep, exercise to the best of your ability, keep yourself mentally active, and so on.  Sounds obvious, but busy lifestyles tend to make us forget all the simple things!

Hi...u r lucky u do not require surgery at this time....and to help with some of ur brain fog u may want to look at vitamins and supplements of minerals to help...B12, Vit D, and magnesium and potassium r good ones to look at...talk to ur PCP about it and he/she can do labs to see what u may need and what dose would be good for u to take.

Glad to hear from u again and I hope u pop in more often : )
