Oh school.....

So I am a college student and I dont know what to do about this comming semester with school. I'm really suffering from many different things, but school is really important for me. It's really all I do because luckily I do not have a job.

I don't know if I should push it and go to class this semester or sit this one out. Online class just are not an option for me because, well, I just don't do the work...

I haven't experianced any relief from my health at all and I'm having bad anxiety breakdowns because of everything going on...

What do you guys think? I'm really on the fence about this one. Don't know what to do.

I am a college student too.. I'm taking a light load this next semester. I actually have surgery on Sept 1 -so I am going to taking it very easy. Stress = not good. This past summer, I had to take a medical leave from classes because it was too hard for me. I'm in Master's program and I just couldn't handle it.

I suggest taking a lighter load than usual- bc stress will only tear you apart.

Hang in there girl- you can get through this...

Msg me if you need to talk~!

As Rod said, Meniere's disease frequently misdx'd and is actually being caused by CM. I have all the signs and symptoms of MD and it has been caused by the Chiari. Although CP can't be misdx'd (as far as I know), the symptoms of Chiari can be really close to that too so it's hard to tell. I am thinking that more of you issues are being caused by the CM than your Drs actually realize.

I was supposed to go to school last September and then I had to back out about 4 days b4 I started. I had been hoping all that time that someone would figure things out for me but it didn't happen. That Oct. I got my dx and had surgery in Dec...so I am really glad I decided to pull out. I have not returned this year either b/c I am not at my full health and didn't feel like I could deal with it.

As others have said..you REALLY need to find a good NS..just by what this Dr is saying to you shows that he doesn't know enough about it. Is it possible to take the year off and focus mainly on getting some help? I know with 5-6 years to go..that is not a decision that you want to make, but any extra stress is really not going to help. I was taking a hard course the year I got really bad and that combined with other things is what I feel caused my symptoms to increase.

I really hope that you are able to contact a good NS!
Good luck!

I dont envy you your position...
If you dont feel physically able to successfully complete your collage term and miss time you will fall behind. If you need to go for treatment such as surgery then this will make things very complicated.
Your doctors need to decide what treatment you will be undergoing then you will have a better idea of where you stand.
If you decide that school is not an option for now you would need to look at what you will do instead, we all need structure, we need to know our limits and stay within them when we are ill but we also need goals to keep us motivated, it is easy to fall into a rut and give up
Chiari is often misdiagnosed as Menears Disease/syndrome. I was misdiagnosed with MD for a few years but I was eventually DX with CM.

I can see how you must be SO frustrated!  How did they determine the Meiners Syndrom from anything else, when vertigo and motion sickness can be attributed to so many other things?  Is there one particular test they do for that?

Don't give up!  I understand you may feel like your life is at a stop at 21 - for the moment.  And I think it's perfectly, absolutely ok to cry in the shower until the water gets cold, when you need to do that.  But honestly, there's no way you can know what amazingly good things lie ahead for you in the future.  You are SO young!  I believe you will find the way - I think when you see a doctor stop listening & shut down, that's a reflection on their limitations.  Not yours.  You will find the doctor that can help you.  Just keep lookin'!

Oops sorry!!!!

CP is Cerebal Palsy. Mine is very minor. It's my right side and it is a little weaker then my left. But it can not get worse. My balance and stiffness in my joints are getting worse. I struggle to walk now.

Meiners Syndrom is an equalibrium inner ear thing that causes vertigo and motion sickness which I do have and that makes it harder to tell what symptoms belong to what problem.

But those two things only can be the cause of a fraction of my problems. but a doctor hears that I have them and they think that's my only problems. It's like they stop listening and they act like it's no big deal even though I cant function in the real world.

I'm about to be a 21 year old college student with a cane and a disabled parking sticker that cant seem to get out of bed or go outside and no one seems to really care. They are just glad they are not me.

Two days ago I sat in the shower and cried until the water got cold and even then some. Biggest breakdown I've had in awhile.

My life is at a complete stop at 21.

I do find it very hard to focus. I am enrolled in a summer math class right now which I am attempting to do it online but it makes my head hurt so bad and I am so tired all the time that I would rather be sleeping.

I live in Oklahoma and there really isnt a good Chiari doctor here. I spoke with a NS that seemed to know a great deal about Chiari. He was nice and answered my questions but I feel like when my mom mentioned my extremely minor case of CP the doctor quit listening he pretty much said that its probably my CP and Mieners Syndrom. But that only explains about one forth of my symptoms.

He also said my hernitation????? was too small and not worth the surgery. He said I really would be dissapointed in having the surgery done.

Even though my life is physically at a stop!!!!

That's why I'm upset over going to school this semester or not... I want to move forward somewhere but if I take classes and can not do them then it would be a set back.

Quite the workload - I agree!  Wow.  Do you find it hard to study and stay focused with your symptoms?  I mean, does it hurt your head to think too much?

Do you have any leads on a good chiari dr there?  I can't wait to see the specialist in August.  I had a follow up with the regular neurologist today, and I will not go back to her again (UCLA or not!)  I swear she didn't listen to anything I said.  It seemed like she either doesn't care, isn't interested (do I look too "normal"?) or she just doesn't know enough about chiari.  I asked her at our first visit how many chiari patients she has and she told me "four".  I feel like if she can't write me a prescription for pills, she doesn't know what to do or say.  (And I hate taking pills!)

So - I wish you luck and speed at finding a specialist near you.  Did you say you're in Montana?

Well first off I'm trying to decide between Meteorolgy and Pre Law.... Both very hard studies. I am starting my third year so stupid me, took all of my easy classes the first two years. All I have now is Math, Chem, Physics and whatever my major has me take. I must say I am horrible with Math... HORRIBLE.

My doctors are not sure what to do because I've yet to find one that understands how I feel even though I am bawling my eyes out when I'm talking to them.

I have about 5-6 years left of school.
