Post op leg pain

I had surgery on 10/31.  Post op I had problems with vomiting & electrolytes.  Since home on Wed, my legs hurt so bad I cannot rest or sleep.  My appetite was nonexistent but I have been eating a little more each day, including potassium rich foods.  Anyone experience this?  I do have a constant headache & am generally feeling sick.

Is it both legs the same way? After a major surgery like this bloot clots are always a concern..

I had my surgery October 9th and it was 3 weeks before I could even tolerate a cpu screen longer than 5 minutes. The first month ***** so just stay on the dr's about pain meds and whatever else you need. You heal faster and better when you are not in severe pain....

Failed back syndrome sounds horrendous... like double whammy with chiari.. geesh

Hope you are feeling better soon

I have never heard of the Failed Back Syndrome, but do know that many of us do have degenerative disk disease..I was DX'd at age 27 and also have stenosis, but not over as large an area as u have.

The position u were in on the OR table may be part of what is going on....

Talk to ur Dr about this

None of the above.  I have Failed Back Syndrome.  Severe degenerative disease & stenosis at all levels, Cervical to Lumbosacral.  I have been well maintained for many years on pain meds & Gabapentin.  I am wondering if this current flare up could be due to the positioning on the OR table. It feels like a ruptured disc except its both legs & buttocks.

Glad u spoke with a Dr....

May I ask what other lumbar spinal issues u have....I also have tethered cord which is in the lumbar spine....just wondering if it is a related issue to Chiari.

Did u have a syrinx as well?

or Ehlers-danlos?

Thanks selmaS.  Luckily I worked with my PCP in our group so I texted her this morning.  She thinks it is a flare up of other lumbar spinal problems I have.  I had been suggested Soma by my NS when I left the Hosp.  Now I've changed my mind.

My hearing is much worse, yet some sounds are almost painful.  It seems there is white noise in my head all the time.  The double vision was what sent me to the NS & I do not know  if this will improve or not.  I overheard the nurses saying something about Vision changes this severe being nerve damage that will not be resolved by the surgery.  Still a lot of unknowns.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

May I ask, do u feel worse when upright or when changing positions?

What pain meds are u on? Many times the meds can affect us.....

This surgery does take a toll on us and it also takes time to heal from.

Keep hydrated and move  as much as u can....walk....then rest, then walk a little more and rest ....and move ur head, u should have been given some exercises to do to help prevent the muscles from getting  stiff and tight, and can also help prevent scar tissue....

Look to the meds u r on and call ur Dr asap....always report ur symptoms to ur Dr.
