Recovery time for surgery

My 13-year-old daughter who is healthy other than her type one well malformation is having the surgery this summer. What has been your experience with the recovery time? She will have two incisions and they will do the Dura patch. She is healthy other than the type one and her headaches.

There are so many different factors that have an effect on recovery from chiari surgery. Your daughter is young and healthy, which will definitely help her to be strong through surgery and after. The best advice is to be assured that her surgeon is a specialist in chiari (how many surgeries has he/she performed?). Summer sounds like a great time, as she will have time away from school. As you find out any new information, post your new questions so we can help. I hope all goes smoothly.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Were ALL related conditions ruled out? Related conditions like EDS, POTS, tethered cord,, can all affect how we feel and heal post op, so these and other related conditions should be ruled out.

Do you know what type of dura patch is going to be used......?

And is her Dr a true Chiari specialist?
