Strange symptoms

I was just wondering if anyone else gets funny speech when they move the wrong way?  I have an 8mm dangle going on and if I really flare things up I scare the hell out of people who don't know me because they think I'm having a stroke eg slurred speech and numbness (should hear me try and sing, its like a cat being strangled)
Also random mood shifts, like uncontrolled laughter to crying back to laughing, but only on the outside, mentally I'm sitting there thinking "wow this is embarrassing"
Most of my other symptoms match up with what I have read, like the cracking headache I have right now, but haven't seen anything on my aforementioned ones.

Hi we do have a list of Drs in Australia...it is a small one ...not too many return to add their Drs....so, if you find one that is not on the list please keep us informed on the outcome to add them.....

Here is the link...keep in mind this list is compiled by members of Drs they have been to and liked, it is here only as a starting point in your research.....

Thanks for the responses!  Looked up the psuedobulbar affect and it describes everything so well.

My close friends try to lessen my embarrassment, mostly make bad jokes under the guise its the only time they'll get a laugh, another friend sang songs at the top of her lungs when I was trying to cover up a crying episode to swing it to a laugh response.  Its more people who don't know me are difficult to explain it to, particularly when speech isn't going too well

I have faith in the neurosurgeon who is dealing with me and from what I've heard from friends in medical field he is a top surgeon, but anyone know of chiari specialists in Melbourne Aust?

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Each of us is different in how we are affected by this condition....but we have had others in the past with slurred speech....and issues that would come on them at odd or inopportune times. One said her co-workers thought she was drunk and had her take a Breathalyzer test....she was humiliated....

I do not think we should allow these events to humiliate us, but use it as a means to educate those that do not understand or know about how we are affected by this condition.

Singing....ah...yes...I had a time with that as well....in fact as some points nothing at all was coming out, no sound at all and my DD thought I was just lip-signing...in Church?...nope...and I was told our vocal cords can be affected and as I will say again and again anything and everything we experience can be a direct or indirect cause of this condition...

The emotional roller coaster is common for many of us....and I have looked up the psuedobilbar affect wondering if we all may be affected by it...and it is similar but mine has calmed down and I am not as emotional as I was b4 surgery.

We have to expect that we can have any symptom as it is affecting our brain stems and spinal cord.

It is very important to not only know your herniation length as that is not as important as if you have a CSF obstruction...or  issues that could be creating the issues you experience...

Educate yourself and research true Chiari specialists....

Know you are not alone....

Hi, Grieie, and welcome!  I am new here, but you talking about the random mood shifts and laughing/crying fits sound a lot like the psuedobulbar affect.  Have you ever looked that up?
