As Sexybare mentioned everyone is different.  I had the same issue as Sexybare, but I couln't return to work because of the physically labor.  I have you in my prayers for a strong and good recovery.  Everyone is different and some people go back to work within months.  Just remember to listen to your body and it will let you know what you are able to do.
Best of luck.
Linda :)

I was off for 9 months, tried to go back to work in autoworker and im off on sick leave again. I had bony decompression last aug 2011. And im headed for duraplasty and plate with muscle repair on aug 20. Theres no tellin how long recovery will be for we are all diff. But from experience depending on the type of work you do depends on if you can tolerate it after and when. After this surgery I do not intend on goin back. For I am no longer able to lift or physically do my job on an assembly line building car gears. Only time will tell hun. You are in my prayers.......Dana
