June, I was very worried about my vision, having already had a retinal detachment. It was my ophthalmologist who sent me to the neuro-ophthalmologist, and he understood the implications of Chiari on vision. Between the two docs, I had every test available. I was comforted that my eyes were basically normal, that it was the Chiari causing the problems. I personally wanted that proof that surgery was necessary & effective.
Not sure you want to be bothered with more docs post op; I had to see both a dentist & orthopod sooner than I wanted to get out.
I was evaluated by a rheumatologist for ErhlosDanos (sp?) and it was negative. The last time I saw my eye doctor he told me it was not unusual to have some minor retinal attachment as we experience it throughout our lives, I could be misquoting him exactly. Anyway, because I am in my 60's he said just let's keep an eye on it(no pun intended lol). Right after that I got the Chiari DX and have been so consumed with all of that - that I have not been back to the eye doctor. The pain in my eye is very infrequent, the floaters are more frequent, not daily by maybe 2-3 times a week. The doctor I went to for my eyes is not an opthomologist, and I'm wondering if I need to make an appointment with an Opth right away before surgery. I thought I read somewhere that someone was told not to see the Opht before surgery? Anyway, thanks so much and I will look up Stickler's Syndrome... June
Just a thought.....Have you been evaluated for a connective tissue disorder? One, in particular, involves eyes and early retinal detachment -- Stickler's Syndrome. Connective tissue disorders can be co-morbid conditions with Chiari.
I also have floaters and every once in a while I feel a sharp pain in my eye-hard to explain it feels like my eye is forcefully being moved. Is the general consensus that I should have an optholmologst check it out b4 surgery? Or wait to see if surgery clears it up and if not, then go to optholmologst??
Myself also gets the floaters, blurred and other vision issues usually daily i get the floaters on n off my NS told me it was my CSFflow that was causing all of that i would adivse you to find a good n true neurosergent that specializes in chiari.
I had surgery for a detached retina a few yr ago; the surgeon said my eyeball did not look normal. Never did find out what was up w/that. I'm legally blind in my right eye but am glad that I'm not totally blind!
When I woke up from surgery 2 mo ago, I was immediately yelling in pain about my right eye.
I have had oscillopsia, nystagmus & conversion disorder, which all seem to have been resolved post op. it was my neuro-ophthalmologist who scared me that compression could cause me to lose my visison.
I personally have vertical double vision. Visual snow. Floaters and over all annoyance of not being able to see clear sooooo annoying...
A good Chiari specialist would know and do most of these tests.....
I will! Thank you!I have all of the eye issues above! who would I see about getting tested for the issues you brought up?
Hi...many have blurry vision, double vision, floaters, depth perception and night vision issues....
I would deff look into Chiari related issues like EDS, POTS, ICP to see if ne of them could be playing a role in some of ur vision issues.
