True that. Most are willing to work with you on what makes you comfortable. I know I would just throw mine up in a ponytail and let them do what they felt is right. Best of luck to you.

Good morning. What is the date of your surgery. Did you tell Selma, so she posts a prayer thread for you? I hope you are feeling well today.

I am 6 days post op & I chose to cut 7 inches off prior to surgery.  I realize now that I wouldn't have needed such drastic measures, however I am glad that I did.  Washing your hair after surgery is quite a task without wetting the dressing (it takes 2 people).....then to blow dry the hair is so exhausting also because your neck is so sore/painful.  Luckily I cut mine in a bob style so my upper layer from crown of head covers entire dressing.  Also I had crusted blood all over my hair (from both temporal areas to top of head) due to punctures from stabilization machine in surgery.  I think it will be hard for you to get old blood out of your hair with corn rows, but it is up to you & your doctor to make the best decision.  Good luck with your surgery!!

Most doctors will only allow you to cornrow it to the half way point and leave the rest loose. This allows them to have easy access to the back of head so they can shave the area where they will be working. I know it isn't something you want to hear but if they cant reach the area they will just cut it out or have you take them out prior to surgery. They cut my brothers out after they put him under. He was upset when he woke up completely bald. Though his surgery was because he had glass inside of his head. So it was different then a planned surgery. They had to stop the bleeding fast. But ask your doctor ahead of time so you know what he/she will want to do. Best of luck to you

Hello. Your braids are really nice, and I know you are probably not liking the idea of your hair being so drastically changed for your surgery. I can understand. My surgery is on the 15th and my hair just grew to where I want it. Could you email your surgeon to ask about your hair? Let him/her know you want to do what will help to prepare for the surgery and be the best for getting back your style afterwards.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Each Dr is different in what  or how he will handle your hair or will want you to have it prior to surgery....some shave a lot off and that could affect your hair when it grows back being in rows like that when shaved....

Talk to your surgeon and ask what he can work with.....mine told me to leave mine long and just put in a pony tail on top of my head...this worked well pst op as I could wear it in a low pony tail and hide the incision....and the new hair growth.
