I had to retire due to the ongoing problems of having CM.  I had surgery 6 months ago.  There is no way I could work now, but like Selma I am  older than most of those who post.

I had surgery two weeks ago. I had my migraines relieved, but still have other problems that keep me from working. My right pupil still fluctuates, which causes double vision and I still have balance problems so I use a cane. I hate it because I'm only 46, married and 4 kids! I worked as an Executive Assistant and made decent money.

yes. I had my decompression last year in May so its almost been a year, but I have my good and bad days. We all know our own limitations though.

Before surgeries, I was working 30+ hours a week and going to college full time. I also have a syrinx and it got to the point of leg weakness and having a shunt inserted in my spinal cord, which made the leg weakness even worse. I had to do about 4 months (2.5 months inpatient) of physical therapy just to be able to walk without a walker or cane. I have to use braces on both feet because I have foot drop. I'm on disability right now, but once I get to a point where I am stable and do not need surgery for a while I would love to look into going back to work, at least part time. I hate sitting around the house so much, but I couldn't imagine working right now. Every one is different though =)

I do. I work full time, go to school full time, and I'm a full time single mom. We do what we gotta do, right? :)

I work full time as well and I am a student. I had my surgery over 6 years ago but might be getting another one. I've learned to cope, some days are good others are bad. I sit at an office all day, and I take lots of mini breaks where I just stop working for a minute, check facebook or something and go back. I also listen to soothing music which helps a lot to focus and to relax while I work. I have a really understanding boss, and I'm paid by hour, so I can take time off when I need to. Plus I love my job! I bring lots of food and snacks to munch on to keep my energy up, and I've learned to type one handed when my left side no longer works. My school and teachers are also really understanding, which come from having disability status at school and talking to the counselor regularly and with my teachers. I'm hoping one day to telecommute though. Right now its a lot like long distance running, I just set a pace and work all day, with a set routine, and do what I need to do in order to stay comfortable. It takes a lot of practice though!

B4 I had surgery I was working 70 + hours a week too, and it was far too much for me...I am older then most here so it really made me feel worse the more I worked as I was not sleeping right or feeling refreshed when I did.....

I also have other related conditions that affect how I feel....so, no matter what someone else can or can not do should have no bearing on what u do.

I still work ive not had the surgery and do not intend to do so. Some weeks I have worked ridiculous amount of hours 60-70+ and 24 hours shifts. I can sit down and relax any time I feel I need to which is why I feel I can manage this :)

I have what amounts to 2 part time jobs.  I looked into disability, but it wasn't  enough money for what I could make working part time.  I teach at the university level two days a week and have my own business and take clients the rest of the week.

There is a great deal of flexibility in my schedule and I don't think I could manage a 9-5/40hr+ a week gig.  I've done it in the past and the thought of trying to do it now is, frankly, head scratching.  I need too many naps to try to be in an office full time anymore.  Props to those that can or have to.  I simply couldn't.
