okay... did i make a boo boo?

Well i officially feel like i had surgery to alleviate one set of severe to trade in for a new set. I now have a sharp almost electrical shock from the base of my skull down to my left hip. My doctors have refered me to pain management for a c-2 ganglion nerve block. has anyone else had pain like this after surgery? does it go away? is this nerve damage ?

I am reading your conversation with Selma and I want to help you too. As far as the physical issues, it sounds like your pain could be as Selma describes, "normal post op"; however, the question remains. To what extent is post-op pain normal? That is a question that you may want to direct to the surgeon. Can you email him/her so that you can fully describe what you are feeling? I always like to put things in writing to make sure that I get all my points out.

Depression is a whole other consideration. I have wrestled with that demon for most of my life. But, recovering from surgery - especially involving your brain - has to be difficult for you. Then, if you are caring for others, you have extra pressure on you. How do you feel about therapy? The best thing for me is that my therapist can help me with my thought patterns. When you are healing, you can be pretty vulnerable and extra sensitive. This is when you may need help from others. I have a loving family support system; however, there is a comfort and strength that I can get from my therapist. Maybe it's because I can be more open with her. With my family, I want to look strong so they can still feel like I am the mother that they need and the wife my husband loves. Think about how you can gain emotional strength now - because you deserve to feel good about yourself after a difficult life event like surgery. I truly hope that you can get to feeling stronger. And the best thing is this; you found a very good place to express your feelings. You are not alone. There are people in this community that really care about others. Please post back to keep us all up to date on your feelings.

This is "normal" post op to go thru a period when we start to feel poorly again....but to what extreme? It should not be as bad pain wise as b4 surgery...depression is also "normal" post op....

But my question is how long since your surgery? It could be scar tissue...and if you are not doing the neck exercises could be the muscles getting tight post op too....

WELL THIS SHARP PAIN IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER HAD THIS ELECTRICAL SHOCK PAIN.... I WOKE UP THIS MORNING WITH SO MUCH PAIN IN MY NECK AND EXTREME BAD HEAD ACHE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY HEAD. I HAVE HAD TYLENOL, IBPROFEN, DICLOFENAC, BACLOFEN, AND I STILL HAVE NO RELIEF. MY STOMACH CANT HANDLE NARCOTICS AND TO BE HONEST I HAVE NO DESIRE TO BE ON THEM. I AM 28 YEARS OLD AND I FEEL LIKE I AM FALLING APART. EVERY TIME I STAND UP OR TURN MY HEAD TO THE RIGHT I HAVE AN EXTREMELY SHARP PAIN AROUND THE CROWN OF MY HEAD.  I WAS JUST REFEREED TO PAIN MANAGEMENT FOR INJECTIONS IN MY NECK BC THE NS THINKS THE PAIN IS COMING FROM MY NECK. I HAVE BEEN IN UTTER TEARS ALL DAY. BETWEEN THE PHYSICAL PAIN AND THE EMOTIONAL TOLL CHIARI AND DECOMPRESSION SURGERY HAS HAD ON ME I JUST CANT STOP THE TEARS!  (SORRY FOR THE CAPS/ CAPS IS STUCK ON MY KEYBOARD )

Hi so sorry to hear that...how far along post op are you now?

Did they rule out ALL related conditions b4 surgery?

Only testing will let you know if it is nerve damage....and I would suspect your NS would have known after the surgery if there might be some.....

Could be scar tissue or some other surgery related issue or a related condition flaring up...
