reiki therapy

Hi everyone...  what do you think about reiki therapy..  I just went to a neuro spinal massage therapist.  He did some shoulder massaging and some pressing on muscles near my hips (which I have had pain there for about 2 yrs.) does anyone else have that pain?  Anyway, I have been feeling pretty bad since that massage... I know the reiki therapy is supposed to relax you... what do you guys think?  Im trying to do anything that might relieve some stress and pain.  If you read my other post I have bulging disks in c5.6 & 7 and i have a 7-8 mm chiari 1 malformation.  Anyone's comments or opinions on this would be appreciated.  He also wanted to try craniosacral therapy, has anyone had any success with that?

Michelle,

Thanks for the heads up on that.....no one else gave that much info, only that it'd be uncomfortable.I appreciate the details, and the tip of the water consumption afterward.

Selma,   The test was not too fun, they had to run it twice on me.. just be prepared for 3 catheters.... two in the front, one in the back   the sitting up was the hardest because that is hard to do for long periods.  You may feel sore afterwards... just drink alot of water after the test.                                  Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Sorry to hear u r in so much pain. And this is the place to vent about it bcuz everyone here understands.

Did TCI schedule tests for TC?....r u having bladder issues? Sometimes the TC surgery helps the chiari symptoms as it causes a pulling down and when released it can resolved many of the issues.

I know of 2 that have had the TC surgery at TCI and both will reccommend it and had very good results.I was dx with TC also and am waiting for my appt at TCI so I may be in the same boat as urself...I woulf rather have TC surgery than the decompression.....I really believe it all depends on one- how advanced ur symptoms have gotten(do u have paralllasis) and who does the surgery. U have to have confidence in ur surgeon or u will not do well...make sure it is a specialist and u r comfrotable with him/her.

There are links in our health pages called LINKS that have info on travel and medical bill assistance. The link is also in our welcome message at the top of this page.

I also have been reacting to meds that I was able to take b4...it is part of the autoimmune issues associated with chiari.I take motrin.....and I avoid doing things in general to avoid the big headaches that motrin cannot help.

Did TCI suggest further testing for the TC?.....

Hi Selma,  Things have not been great since I got back from TCI.... I have had several drop attacks, been very weak and not getting out much, and not going online because it is very painful to sit at the computer and my right hand always has alot of pain too.  ANyway, they showed me my picture of my brain.. my brainstem is at an angle being pushed, there is scar tissue and they felt the flow looked a little slow.  They think I may have tethered cord, and that surgery may alleviate alot of my symptoms.  What's your opinion?  I was hoping to get surgery, because the pain and equilibrium problems dizziness is all too much.  Every time I try a drug.. I react very strongly and can't tolerate it.  What over the counter meds do you recommend?  I heard of someone using excederin for migraines.... my head just feels so tight in the front, sorry I guess I'm just in the complaining mode.  Do you feel alot of people improve after their surgeries?  I've read a few books about this and I get the feeling that things don't improve that much.. or is that just depending on the individual.   One more question.. what do people do as far as their medical bills... I have gotten to the point that I cannot afford to pay all these bills coming in.  Do you know what kind of aid people apply for?  Sorry for bombarding you with all this, but I know you are knowledgeable and I hope you can help me answer some of these questions.  Thank you.. God bless              Michelle

Hi Selma,

I just looked up craniosacral therapy... google the definition on wikipidia, and you'll see what i'm talking about.  I got an appointment at the Chiari Inst. for Fri, I am going to ask them about what they think about this before I let the massage therapist do it.  I will try the hands off therapy (reiki) to help me just relax and relieve stress.  I will let you know what they say after my appt.      Michelle

I can underatnd about how you feet in the pain in the hips region.  I as well have these pains.  I have had steriod injections in the back of the neck area.  Not the funnest thing that I have had done but not the worst.  I have not had the massage therapy that you mentioned in your post.  My left side of the neck and shoulder area's are very sore down to the finger tips on the left hand.

My nuerologist has set up appts for an EMG and x rays of both hips, he feels that I might have a nerve pinched in my hips.  This will happen this Friday; I also see my pain management doc this thursday and ask her about it as well.

Thanks for the idea's - something is learned every day.

Hi shell,

From what I understand u should only go to those who r well trained in chiari....just like a chiro it may cause more issues than it will help. Also ...ne massage can cause more pain in our tender points depending on the amount of pressure applied.

Can u explain the craniosacral therapy?.....I am not familiar with it and would like to hear more.

I would also suggest u locate a chiari specialist.....let us know where u live maybe we can give u some names to research.....we do have a chiari specialist thread here in the forum.

I hope u will find this a great place for info and support and u bcome an active member.....I look forward to getting to know u.

Godspeed
