I have a chiari malformation and its 8.9 mm. Surgery is April 11 2013, my question is what are the major risks with type of surgery?

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

With ALL surgeries there are risks, and this is a major surgery.....one way to help avoid post op issues and set backs is to follow the Drs orders and listen to ur body....

Know how ur body does with pain and let the Dr know so he can RX what u will need, keep in mind every one is diff and u can not base ur experience on someone else's.

Many of the members here have a journal of their surgical experiece, u can read those to get an idea just how diff we r, and what some others have been thru.

Do u know what all ur Dr plans to do during ur surgery?...Lamenectomy, dura plasty?.....

ASk as many questions as u can so u know....

Hi, I had the surgery 15 years ago and I had no problems during the surgery or after.  I felt good until the past year I'm having all the problems again.  I have to have the surgery again.  They told me this could happen, don't worry everything will go fine.  What are all your symptoms??
