I had exactly the same problem on my right side, so badly that I couldn't lift anything or lie on my right side. It was excruciating and affected other muscles as well.
It took a lot of Physio and a lot of stretching, I asked my Physio this morning and she says it sometimes happens due to muscle weakness - this happend for me after Surgery and only 7 weeks post op are my scapula starting to even out and not be so winged anymore.
The sooner you can start stretching the better!
I have a winged scapula! I came across your blog on Med Help and it sounds exactly like me. I am 63 and had a hysterectomy Sept 8th (2014). Since then my shoulders began to hurt the muscles, bones and nerves, especially my right shoulder. Now it is winging out! ...again.
When I was 23 I lived in Mexico. I began having this same pain in one shoulder. Suddenly my shoulder was winging out! I could not lift my arm past my shoulder without tremendous pain. I drove from Monterrey to Houston by myself to see a nerve specialist. He told me a virus had eaten away at the nerve that goes to my scapula. He said, because I was young and healthy it would probably grow back. And it did...after about 6 months I began to be able to use those muscles again, gradually.
Hi, I have heard of this happening, I do not have this issue, and I am not sure y the muscles r contracting so tight ...as I am sure that is what is causing it....have u tried a massage?
Or PT for just that area?
May I ask, what has ur NS said about this?
