7 year old hearing voices amongst other issues

About 2 months ago my 7 year old daughter came running out of the shower hysterically crying and screaming, that a boy was in the bathroom asking "who are you?  who are you?"  then he yelled "Boo!"  But there was no one there.  We checked the house to be sure and put her at ease.  Then this evening when she was laying in her bed, she came to me upset, and looking confused.  She said she heard someone, in a man's voice that she didn't know, say "who are you? what are you doing?"  She then muttered that he said "I am gonna kill you" I tried not to react, I simply said, what did you say, I couldn't hear you.  She didn't answer me and continued to say who do you think it was.  I am not sure if I should believe that last statement as she has a history of lying and the fact that she didn't state it clearly like the rest of the story makes me question the truth to it, so I don't know if she actually heard that or if she said it to see my reaction.

I am very concerned that she says she is hearing voices.  We have an appointment with her pediatrician already scheduled this week to review a recent diagnosis of ADHD.  Could this be a case of original misdiagnosis and something else entirely different.

She also has difficulty making friends, she goes to a very small school, and I don't know if that plays a factor into the difficulty.  But she has cried to me many times that she has no friends and that no one likes her.  This all breaks my heart for my child.  Any advice is appreciated.

That is simply what we (her dad and I) thought when it happened the first time, two months ago... we actually kind of laughed it off, although she was terrified when it happened.  Don't get me wrong when it happened we consoled her and told her that there was no one there, but we also didn't feed into it.  It was after the fact when we talked amongst the two of us, that we were like wow can you believe she actually ran out of the shower screaming.

But last night when she came to me she had a truly confused look on her face.  Like she knew there was no one there, yet she heard a man talking to her.  My husband is concerned because his mother had a long list of mental illnesses.  And one of them did include hallucinations.

Please don't think that I am looking for something to be wrong, I would much prefer to hear that it was a momentary thing, but I also don't think I can let it go without paying mind now that it has happened twice, especially with the look that was on her face last night.  The look alone spoke volumes.

Could it be simpler than that, could your daughter have seen a scary movie, children do have vivid imaginations, or heard something scary from an older child or adult...what does her dad say about it ?

No, she is not on any meds at all, for the ADHD or anything else.  The neurologist had said that she didn't believe it was severe enough to start meds at this point (I feel/felt the same way).  We are meeting with pediatrician to discuss behavior modification and nutrition options, to see how those work.  Her main problem is focus, not so much hyperactivity.  I mean she is a little hyper, but she is 7 so that has to somewhat be expected, no?

I just feel so awful for my little girl.  She seems as if she goes through such tourment at times.  Another example of her troubles, would be yesterday she was sent to a time out (because in a moment of frustration she hit a sibling), immediately after being placed/sent there she started screaming that she needed to go to the bathroom.  She has tried this as a delay for getting in trouble before so I didn't believe her and told her she could go after she completed the time out.  Well, she happened to be next to where we keep our extra bottled water, and bottles of juice.  She literally started freaking out that she had to go and threw about 6 or 7 bottles in my directions, but as she was doing this you could see she was in such torment.

I truly wish there is something I can do to help my little girl.  There are times you can almost see the conflict she struggles with over doing good, yet having these outbursts.

I'm sorry you all are going through such a trying time. You mentioned that your daughter was recently diagnosed with ADHD, is she on new meds for this? A rare occurrence with ADHD meds can be hallucinations. It's rare,  but a friend of mine had this occure with her son. It would probably be a good idea to make an appointment with a child psychologist for her. They could help her with some of the issues that come with ADHD - such as social challenges she may be having. Good luck, remember you all are not alone.
