My 5 year-old son killed on of our kittens

My son just turned 5 in July. He has hearing loss, a speech problem, and is a slow learner. We have 1 cat and 2 kittens. We have had the kittens for 5 months, but before that he has never been around kittens. He would play with them kind of rough and he would be put in time out for it. He would always give them kisses and seemed like he truly liked them. Then just the other day when we woke up we could only find one of the kittens. We looked and looked and then I found the kitten in his backpack on his bed. I opened it and he was dead. We freaked out and I tried to tell him what he did and that the kitty was gone and never coming back. I dont know what to do. Is this a sign that he is bad? His grandparents asked about the kitty and he kinda justs turns his head down and gets really upset. What should I do? Do I need to get him help? Or is it just truly an accident and he didnt know he was going to hurt the kitty?

Yes, it sounds like ur son was playing to rough and accidently killed it. Don't stress it. Kids that young usually are more rough with animals. He obviously knows it was bad. If u find more though I would get him help. Good luck.

Sound like an accident he tried to cover up because he was ashamed. I think he knew what he did was wrong. I wouldnt worry about it unless more animals turn up dead.
