My 7 year son has recently told me he is having bad thoughts

My 7 year old son recently has confided in me that he has been having uncontrolable "bad thoughts", like swear words, saying someone is stupid, etc. It's bothering him, as you can imagine. I tell him that he's ok, he's just worrying too much and that I will get him help (therapist of some sort). My husband thinks I should wait a couple of weeks- but I disagree & don't want it to get worse. Sounds like a form of OCD to me? or is this just a phase?. He also tneds to be a little hyper at times- bugs his big sis non stop at times & doesn't listen when I tell him to stop. His teacher said he had trouble following or remembering instructions, and even wondered if he was hard of hearing- but the hearing test at schoool turned out fine.

I think it's in a boy's nature to bug their sister, so I would tell him to stop but it's not a sign of anything.  I believe he is thinking of the bad words because he is now hearing them at school and he knows they're wrong.  He now feels "wrong" in even thinking about them.  I would just tell him that you're proud of him for not using those words that are bad and then leave it alone.  It's good that he is communicating this with you.  But his ability to concentrate is of concern, and I had this with my oldest son.  He was fine with everything, but at school he do poorly, and it turned out that he had ADD, which he outgrew. I rasied two sons and a daughter and the boys loved aggravating their sister, but they learned to respect her with age.  Hope this helps and take care.

I have known a few older siblings who call their younger ones stupid and  other names it does happen a lot, best ask the sister not call him names .Parents would do well to be more watchful to protect the more vunerable , , I am glad its all okay now ....

thanks for your reply. no he doesn't take any meds at all. he is normal otherwise. he has told me kids at school have told him the swear words- as he didn't even know what one was until this past year.and I think there was a bit of fighting on the playground this past year as well- which he has commented on & seems to bother him. yes of course, his bog sister when angry has called him stupid , dummy- as well he does now too. i don't .condone it - but as they have gotten older, I just tell them to stop or otherwise they'll get a timeout. He has not said anything about it since this morning so I'm happy about that.
