thx. for your input. To answer your question. It's hard to tell. I'm constantly reminding him and he is aware of it. He get nervous at times but smiles about it. more like nervous & thrilled at the same time. We'll see what the good Dr. has to say tomorrow. thx again
BTW, my son is a sporty guy too and plays baseball. He has a squeezy ball that looks like a baseball. And one like a football. And one like a basketball . . .
Does your son get nervous during his baseball season so you are seeing an increase in it right now? My son pitches and he does get anxious this time of year because while baseball is one of those easier sports in some ways . . . you are also up there to bat alone, pitching alone, everyone watches as a ball comes to you and you field it . . . some kids can have pressure on them from the process.
I've been reading about sports anxiety as of late. Kids sure put a lot of pressure on themselves and are competitive with one another.
Anyway, I was just mentioning this as you said the magic word -- baseball.
Oh good, glad to have helped. I think you'll find the finger fidget helpful. Best of luck to you.
thx. seems to be nervous energy .he does it more in the time leading up to some event. he is very calm by nature and says he doesn't know why he does it. I like your idea with the fidgets. I use baseballs and other things. I will get some fidgets. He'll see his Dr. Thursday. Thx. again for your input.
Hi there. Do you think these are tics? My son has done a finger rolling, odd movement for years and I've tried to discern if it is related to his sensory integration disorder or if it is an anxiety tic and am leaning toward it being his seeking sensation but more so that it is an anxiety tic. When he is nervous, he does it more.
At 8, he should be able to verbalize why he is doing it. My son says he either doesn't know he's doing it or that it itches inside (which is the sensory processing part of it). But we talk about it. Have you talked to him about it and what does he say?
We give our son a hand fidget and it really helps. Those are things like squeezy balls or these kind of chain rope things they make for kids who have to move their hands. Try something like that and see if it helps.
Is your son often nervous/anxious?
