cracked nipples

Hello everyone,

We have 3 months old twins (a boy and a girl). My wife nipples are always badly cracked and we tried different creams suggested by doctors but none worked. We don't want to stop breastfeeding them, but temporary pause could help, problem re-starts when breast feeding is resumed. Our babies feeding is also disturbed due to roughness of the nipples after temporary recovery. Has anyone gone through such, experience? Any suggestions...

Suggest she pumps to feed the babies. Remember she is feeding two babies instead of one. When the breasts return to normal, recommend only breast feeding one baby and the other has pumped breast milk for that feeding. You can alternate a baby at each feeding so your nipples do not crack and the children have the benefit of breast milk. Hoped this helped you.

This may not be the case, but you may want to check the babies for an upper lip frenulum tie or a lower tongue tie.  This sometimes can cause pain and problems nursing for the mother.
