So Peter, did you take the medication? How are you doing?? Come back and update us!!
Absolutely. my husband started on Lipitor in his 30's (and there are many meds that work very well to reduce your LDL which will also decrease your total cholesterol). There are babies that are born with high cholesterol so it is not always managed by life style. Your dad was very young for a heart attack and this likely leads the doctor to believe there is a genetic risk involved. So, I'd take the med. Absolutely. And do the other things that will help. You don't sound at all over weight but being active at a minimum of 30 minutes a day will increase your HDL (good cholesterol) which will also help your total cholesterol number. Basically, the American Heart Association guideline is that your LDL should be under 100. I'd get it there to be safe. Watch cholesterol in your diet as well. good luck
