Hello and welcome. Thank you for the excellent question.  Yes is the simple answer to whether or not exercise helps to lower total cholesterol.  However, it is a little more complex than that.  We do recommend that you have your cholesterol checked annually at your doctor's office and that you receive guidance from them.  

Exercise will increase the 'good cholesterol' or HDL cholesterol. This in turn counteracts the 'bad cholesterol' or LDL cholesterol level and can bring down your TOTAL Cholesterol number.  It is always beneficial to increase your HDL cholesterol number and you can do this by regular exercise.  This article is helpful in explaining this. https://www.webmd.com/cholesterol-management/guide/understanding-numbers#1
