Is high cholesterol bad for everyone?

AsymptomaticHypochondenialExternal User
Does the medical profession REALLY know all there is about high cholesterol? I am in my 50’s and I have been told my LDL numbers are high. My cholesterol has been high all my life and even higher in the past due to some high stress life-choices. I eat healthy food; however, I eat more servings than I should and I now have some extra weight. I also have a low stress job, I am STILL active and work out, my heart is normal size, my blood pressure and sugar are almost perfect, my pulse if fine. I am concerned about the side effects of statin drugs v my present health condition- or lack of problems. Why should I risk the dangerous side effects of statin drugs to lower my cholesterol if I do not show signs of a cholesterol problem?

Don't listen to all the nonsense about statin drugs, the rate of serious side effects are extremely low, lower than most over the counter pain meds. Most side effects can be managed very easily with adjustments to dosage or using different statins. These are extremely safe and effective.

Some healthy foods contain cholesterol, and if you eat more servings than you should, doing so adversely affect cholesterol levels.
