Very high HDL

Two years ago my cholesterol was 146, HDL68, LDL-C, 64, triglycerides 67, cardiologist pit me on rovustatin. Since then my overall cholesterol has increased to 223. Culprit is HDL increased to 130, LDL-C 79, triglycerides 67. Diet hasn’t changed, I am a intense exerciser. Have been for 40 years. Only thing that has changed is taking daily statin for past two years.Could that be the cause?

Notice nothing since Dec '21, but have to ask: w/ HDL, TriG & LDL all in the 60's, why in the world were you prescribed a statin??

Hello and welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.  I would speak to your doctor about these results.  On the surface, having high HDL is considered a very good thing. However, your HDL is unusually high.  There is now some science based evidence that this is actually something that can be indicative of problems.  https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/319275#higher-hdl.  Anything above 60 for HDL is good, anything above 90 is abnormally high.  I will say that your LDL looks fantastic!  That helps. There is something called C Reactive protein that you would want to know if you have this in high levels along with the HDL. That's the harmful relationship.  Another easy to read article to copy and paste.  https://www.healthline.com/health/high-hdl#qampa-heart-attack-and-hdl-levels

I would follow up with your doctor and talk about what you should do in order to investigate this high level of HDL.  Do not stop any medication unless under guidance from your doctor.  Your LDL still needs to be under control.  Please let us know when you set up your follow up visit.  I'll be very interested to hear what they say.

I'm following up to see if you've met with your doctor and what they had to say.
